I seem to have skipped a month .. life seems to have been hectic and I need to fix my work/music creation balance :)

My latest offering for your pleasure (hopefully) and feedback please. A couple of new synths making an appearance here, in particular Vengeance Sound VPS Avenger Synth - it's a monster!

Thanks

Brilliant piece of music.

I really enjoyed how it slowly subsides near the middle only to build back up again. Everything sounds nice & crisp.

This is so good...very deep and powerful. I love the build up, and then the slow down. The melodies are beautiful. Nice work.

Hi Jon,
i really enjoyed listening to this wonderful track, my favourite of your songs so far. The pads and piano harmonise pretty good, the build up comes in handy and the melody sounds beautiful to me.
So it seems that your new toy Avenger can give you some kind of inspiration as well....
The mix sounds flawless on my stereo and headphones. Good job, mate

Thank you guys for the listen and the kind words. I'm glad you liked it :)

Oliver, thank you .. New synths are always a good source of inspiration for me, flicking through the presets until something jumps out which I can tweak and then start building into a piece. I'm sure this is a backward method of composition! :)

Thanks again
Jon

Nice one, Had to re-listen to the start as I thought that it missed a little tad more verb but reconsidered after the second pass as I got what you were after there on the second pass.
Thanks !

I thought this was beautiful and very deep. If this is just a draft it is very good.

In the first 35 seconds, I felt like some of the instruments could be tightened. If these are MIDI it's easy enough to go in and adjust the timing. I'm not suggesting perfection, mind you, just enough to tighten some of the looseness. Also the transition into the next section needs something. My initial inclination is to suggest stretching out that last chord and inserting a wash or rise, but there are probably equal or better solutions.

I like the drum sound quite a bit and the way they fill everything out. The song itself is gorgeous. I'm very glad I got the chance to listen to it.

Steve

Really nicely done Jon. Nothing to add really other than, if that synth was a new purchase, it was a good one! ;)

Thank you guys for the listens and the feedback :)

I did consider tightening up the timing but in the end left it as played to try and get a more 'casual' feeling. As you can probably tell, my keyboard skills are a little lacking

I've only scratched the surface of Avenger, I think it's going to be a good investment!

Thanks again

Very polished and relaxing tune. I love when music tells a story, and this accomplished that well.

Really well done Jon, I like it very much, you have such a great way of working a composition and I love your ideas :)

The overall mix and instrument choices, everything sonically fits really well and is well balanced.

After listening to it many times, just a few observations that struck me (everybody will here things differently, so take this with a piece of salt haha!

Intro
I felt that it needed a few bars of maybe solo piano or another instrument to lead into the piece as it stands at the moment.

0:47
very nice, loved it!

1:08 and 4:30 ish
I really felt that the violin (if it is a violin) could be a little more expressive. I like how you have set it back in the mix, but I feel it's a little too static.

4:36
Not too sure of the harmony of instrument parts, does it need the 'c' passing note on the piano, also just before that a bell like tone sounds a little awkward - but it's probably just me and all is fine!

4:48
The transition from the 4/4 section back into the 6/8 passage, I noticed that there is a tambourine being used, it would be interesting if the tambourine has a final shake with a decrescendo transitioning into the 6/8 part - just an idea etc

The first time the 6/8 transitions into the 4/4 section I had to listen to it a lot! I was in the groove of 6/8 and feeling that, then the bass drum enters (I think on the 5th quaver of that transitioning 6/8 bar) and it really through my train of thought. After about 5 times I got used to it and all was good! haha :)

I think the timing is a little too loose for my liking, just maybe tighten up a little, but not to the extent of it feeling rigid?

Anyway - I love you work, and I loved this track, so very well done again!

Best,
Scott

Cwestmont - Thank you for the feedback and the kind words.

Ilmari - Welcome back! Glad you liked it and I'm glad I brightened your day a little :)

Scott - Wow, thank you for the really comprehensive analysis! I didn't even know I had transitions from 6/8 to 4/4 .. just goes to show my total lack of proper musical theory lol ! As I think I said before, I did try to tighten it up but then didn't like the sound, probably due to the fact I'd played it over so many times that my brain was expecting the 'looseness' ?! I'll also admit there are probably more than one or two 'bum' notes in there. Hopefully they don't detract too much.

Thank you again all.
