Hi Guys,
Just thought I would share my cinematic Sci-Fi score, and see what you think about it. If you don't like it that's fine, I have a hard skin... HaHa Not sure if I have linked this correctly being the first time I have tried, apologies if it doesn't work. Best, Scott phpBB [audio]

This as well as your other works could definitely be used as part of a movie soundtrack.
All your tracks seem to have a very nice bright top end without being harsh. That may be in part because of the instruments used but what kind of EQ curve do you use in your mastering chain?

Black_Haus wroteThis as well as your other works could definitely be used as part of a movie soundtrack. Thank you, so much for taking the time to listen. In terms of the high end on all the string parts and most of the brass parts in any of my compositions I like to use Softube Drawmer 1973, not for compression so much but to add air to the parts, it is beautiful for that. On the main buss, I always use Dangerous BAX EQ, and sometimes with a little compression / limiting I use either Weiss compressor limiter. I am very strict on not using much compression at all, and if I do it would be on a 1.2 / 1.5 ratio ,because of the dynamic range that I wish to keep with the orchestral instruments. The other thing I have found with using too much compression is it disrupts the natural placement of the orchestral instruments (panning and depth of sound stage). I'm a bit unorthodox because I don't Master the track separately, I mix in Studio One and leave it at that!

Well, regardless of whether your unorthodox or not the final outcome speaks for itself.
Very well done. I can hear what you are talking about in reference to the dynamic range and depth of the instruments.

Liking this one too .. Slight niggle with the snare (?) drum which didn't seem to sit well for me but apart from that spot on for the intended use.
Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for listening What is it about the snare (niggle) is it the tone of it, or the reverb space etc, or a combination? It would be interesting to know more on your thoughts etc. Thanks again, Scott

I think it's a little quiet and also seems to sit in a different 'space'. As such when I hear it it almost seems like some 'outside noise' rather than part of the piece. Just my opinion though of course, I'm no expert on this stuff!

Sorry I did not listen to this earlier. You released this back in 2017 on SoundCloud.
I think this is a really nice piece. I like the movement, instruments, and mix. It sound really professional and was a pleasure to listen to. Nice job. |
