Same old same old .. I attempted several times to make this track shorter but didn't like the results. This is definitely a feet-up, headphones on, drift away tune.
As always, all feedback welcome on both the piece and the production. Special thanks in advance to anyone who makes it all the way through Edit: Note that there is a newer 'improved?' version further down the post phpBB [audio]

dongios wroteVery nice Buster . Liked the guitar, piano, cool bass sound, swirling percussion. Wanted to hear a solo female vox doing vocalise in some forgotten language. Thank you for the listen and the feedback Dongios If I had access to a female singer I would certainly like to do more with vocals rather than relying on samples like I currently have to.

Hey jp...I'm gonna say that it strikes me that you've got some excellent sounds here...all vying for the limelight. In the intro I can hear acoustic guitar, pads, piano...all sounding like they wanna be the feature. I say let one of them take the limelight and let the rest sit back for a bit...they can certainly share limelight duties...but avoid having them all trying for that spot at the same time.
Is there one lead sound you want to carry the tune with the rest in supporting roles, so to speak? It may be way more lush when this happens. It's a lovely tune. Let the drums drive the song more...they are in the back seat. Let that rhythm section...drum and bass dictate where the journey is going...let much of your instrumentation be the fuel...and let one instrument have its head out the window, wind in its hair, one hand on the wheel piloting that band. |
Thanks hello
I've had these comments many times before and I totally get what you are saying. My composition style is, shall we say, 'unplanned'. i.e. I tinkle on the keyboard for as while till something catches my ear and then lay stuff over the top. This tends to lead to the problem you describe but on the other hand leads to a piece where you can listen to a different instrument each time through and hear a different piece almost (useful for me as I tend to spend a lot of time listening to the piece over and over as I put it together!). Percussion again is a topic I'm often picked up on. In this instance the percussion was the last thing to be added. I need to structure my composition better and maybe get the percussion done sooner so that it can 'drive' as you describe. Thank you for the listen and the feedback. Most appreciated.

I've been playing around in the project page adding processing in an attempt to 'master' my songs a little. I would be interested to get feedback please on whether this new 'mastered' version sounds better than the original I posted at the start of this thread.
phpBB [audio] I've attempted to boost the 'loudness' a little (without playing loudness wars) and changed the EQ a little using the multiband dynamics. Better / worse / same ? Suggestions? Thank you in advance.

Guten Tag Jon,
the mastered version sounds a bit better, warmer and glued together imho.

Guten Tag Oliver
Thank you. It's what I thought too but I wasn't sure whether I was just imagining it or not. Time to focus a little more on 'mastering' I think
