I'm struggling with this one. It was meant to be done for Christmas but something is bugging me about it which I can't quite put my finger on so I put off finishing it. So, I thought I'd throw it out to the folks in here to see if I can get some ideas as to what needs doing so I can finish it off and move on.

The only thing that stands out to me, listening both on my AKG headphones and my not-very-good PC speakers, is that there's some resonance going on that builds up around the 3'15" mark. At reasonably high volume on my headphones, it gets a little painful. I'm guessing that it's only the piano, but it could be two or more channels adding on to each other.

Other than that, it's a beautiful piece, and I think the choir sounds like a good choice.

Garry - Thank you for the listen and the feedback. My ears have obviously been saturated by working on this for too long, I missed that problem and now you have pointed it out it sticks out like a sore thumb! I was going for a louder more 'dramatic' ending and it seems I've turned something up a little too far :) I'll take a look at that!

Thanks again.

maybe an unusual lead instrument or Celtic type vocal? I liked it very much. Floats along.

Hi Jon,

aside from that issue at 3.15 i like it the way it is. It keeps my interest till the end and comes up with some nice changes of the chords. I would have added a warm and dark sounding pad in the last part to give the tune another colour on top, but that's just me....

I'd love to add vocals to a lot of my pieces but sadly I lack a vocalist :(

Thanks for the listen and the feedback

Hi Oliver. Thanks for listening and for the feedback. It is a work in progress so I'll probably add a few more elements while I'm fixing the acoustic 'issues' so I'll bear your comment in mind :)

Cool soundscape! I like the contrast between the high flutey instrument and the low synth/strings at the end especially when the bass note lands on that F#.

The mix had good clarity and separation on my Eris speakers, ipad and headphones. Really liked the sound choices. A very nice ambient composition imho.

Curious to know what vsti's / libraries did you use for the sounds in this song?

Windows 10 - Presonus Studio One 5.1 - Presonus Notion 6
Presonus Central Station - Presonus Eris E8 - Celemony Melodyne
Presonus Studio 192 - Korg Triton Taktile - Presonus Atom - M-Audio Trigger Finger Pro - Korg Nanokey Studio - Behringer X Touch Presonus Faderport

Thanks to everyone for the feedback on this I managed to get it finished. Basically some tweaks to levels and EQ to get rid of the 'harshness' that crept in throughout and particularly at the end.

Beautiful, Jon! And the mix sounds perfect. I especially love the 2nd-chords sung by the choir, and the cadence motif of the piano.

I'd leave it just as it is (2nd mix). Even the crescendo part in the first was not audibly bad, and gave a feel of desperation (remember, we're following a star). Heard this on my HD-650's, and it was fine. The title is fitting to the music. Good work.

Heard the follow-up. Yes, very subtle fix, so nice job fixing. I didn't here it through my monitors at this time, but I'll give a follow up check there as well.

Sound good. I would consider maybe you slowly fade in with some light percussion, then have some drums kick in later in the song. kind of like building as the song progresses. Overall, I think the sound is very good.
