Hey everybody,
I recently released a new album written, recorded, mixed and mastered entirely in Studio One 3. It's an industrial metal album sort of along the lines of Ministry or Godflesh. It's available for download/streaming and also as a limited edition cassette at Bandcamp at https://sterilizer.bandcamp.com Here's the first track phpBB [audio] Thanks for listening, if anyone has any feedback I'd love to hear it. Cheers!

Is this just a snippet or a complete song?
Sounds good for this genre but your drums are difficult to hear. Either they're too low in the mix or it's an EQ thing? Ministry seems to mix their drums more to be heard but Godflesh does keep them buried somewhat. Of course this probably varies per album and the producer.

Hey thanks for the post. It's the first track to the album so it's a complete song. Regarding the drums, that's funny because I've been thinking I mixed the drums too loud, haha. EQ'ing is something I'm trying to get better at for sure. Maybe their volume is ok but the EQ should have been adjusted to make them cut through the mix better... I'll keep this in mind!

Started this song right after another ambient piece and it blew me away in volume!
That could be a good thing. But, drums are too soft. This mix is all about mid range and I think you can do better. It hits in the face. Can't really follow instruments. Had to stop playback. Maybe check your mix against other commercial mixes in this genre would help. Or, maybe it's just me not relating to the onslaught. It's probably that. |
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah really I'm not sure about the mix of the drums. It's definitely something I'm going to work on in the future though (already released this album).
It could also just be this particular track too that you might be referencing. There are some percussive sounds I layered in to sort of add some texture that you may be referring to. If you happen to have a chance to listen, do you think the drums sound low in this track too: https://soundcloud.com/nervewar/a-1?in= ... rilizer-ii Cheers - and happy to hear you used the word "onslaught" since that's pretty much what I was going for Bbd wroteStarted this song right after another ambient piece and it blew me away in volume!
