Engineers or people in the industry are often the worst critics.

Edited by the author to not divert the thread question.

Hmmm, at times perhaps. I suspect thats for others to decide. Any position about subjectivity is highly subjective. ;)

I agree, opinions often can ne better weighed with who you also ask. The Internet can be such a broad point of reference, but that should be taken into account. There are a few in the general forum who visit here, and have a similar background as myself. So when I hear some commentary about perhaps pulling some drums back,  or so on, I often agree, because I'll get the same impression. So if the suggestion is coming from the right place (say the heart, but it might include ears, genre, and a host of sensitive points of reference), then something can be gained by it.

It's all just pretty nice that people post and share their offerings (music and opinion). Nice Bbd presented the topic.

It's also pretty cool that most people here put honest intentions/feelings first. There's nothing wrong with constructive criticism as we all know. People can usually take it. That was my point about honesty, and listening.

So far, so good.

I am trying to encourage as well. Maybe some don't think they have the experience to make helpful comments.

Regardless of anyone's actual or perceived skill level, we all listen to music, so everyone is qualified.

Edited this and the previous post in hindsight to not throw Bbd's thread question more off topic.

Sorry Bbd. Good thread, apologies for the sidetrack.

Hey thanks Lawrence. You understood my goal. By asking if someone wants feedback first, it should help set the playing field for comments. It seems to be going fine. There's a lot of good talent on this board and I am hoping many more will feel welcome enough to post their music.

If I could just get the lyrics done to a song I am writing, I'd post one and ask for crits too!

Thanks for being nice. :)

My post was unintentionally rude actually, hindsight being 20/20, not doing anything but potentially distracting from your attempt at information gathering. Thanks for not calling me a jerk.

I think any comments are of value as it means that someone actually heard the piece and not like in Soundcloud where a bot liked your song just to see if the artist is lured into some scheme that normally is involving money or likes.
I used to have the text "Comments are welcome" but have replaced it with "All comments are welcome" as I think that the dislikes are also indications of where it is possible to go with the tune on a later mix.
My 2cent.

Hey Lawrence, thanks for the post. It was good of you to say that. We all are in this together in many ways. Creating and producing music is in the blood of most of us I think.
We spend so much time on the technical and much less on the art. So it's good to know what others think of both of those.

Thanks for all you do on this forum.

I was getting ready to thank you Lawrence. Didn't read the latter thread, but your points earlier on were very true. The internet, minutia, and weighing or ignoring opinions.

Opinions are like pie holes. Everybody has one. That's the family friendly version. :)

Agreed Mr. Green Frog with Red Eyes (GFWRE).
Sometimes even the worst of crits can have some truth in them.

A buddy of mine has one of those beverage holders for keeping his beer cold. The saying on it goes like.....
"It's my opinion, and it should be yours!"
