Ok, so it was prolly my fault, but these things are so small that the easiest way to prevent loosing them is to leave them plugged in.

So the other night I was lifting a 328 onto it's stand and I noticed the WiFi dongle was just a mangled stub :( I guess something in the van tried to occupy the same space at the same time :!:

Never mind, I thought, I have a spare taped to the RM32 that doesn't get used (the RM is hardwired to the router). Well, the tape was still there, but no dongle...

So I'm now short by 2 Wifi dongles. Are these things just bog standard cheap generic WiFi dongles? Or are they a specific brand/type/modified that all the Ai gear specifically looks for?

Anyone? I need to replace the dongles... Can I buy anything I can find at my local store or do I have to buy from PreSonus?

Yeah, I've seen that. Unfortunately the online store says "domestic sales only" and I'm in UK.

So do I try to find a UK dealer that stocks the "PreSonus" part or will any cheap Wifi dongle do?

Thanks for the reply anyway. :)

If I'm correct the dongle is based upon the

http://www.realtek.com.tw/products/prod ... ProdID=274

So I can only assume that anything based on that would work...

EDIT: Maybe this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/Realtek-RTL8188 ... 0973235744

Thanks, based on your suggestion I kept following the links and came up with this although it's a bit pricey at $2.29 + free shipping :P

I may buy a few different brands to see which ones works best.

Where do you find that this one is based upon the 8188cus? I could not find that in the link you provided...

True, I was going by the "suggested alternatives" ebay provides, and the identical packaging. It was more a humorous search for "how cheap can I be" rather than a serious money saving exercise.

I'll get some that actually specify RTL8188cus somewhere in the description.
Thanks for the info, it is most helpful.

If anyone is interested I bought 5 @ about $5 each (a lot better than $20 in the PreSonus store).

I need to do more hard testing, but at first try they seem to work fine.... and being smaller they should be harder to break!!

Correction, I paid about $3 each....

I found them on ebay, if you do a search there are plenty listed with the same spec.

DISCLAIMER
I have one in an RM32 and one in a SL32 and they appear to work. But I have NOT done any long term testing, or tested for range, or any other testing that you should do before relying on them at a live gig. I'm working on that one.
