As a bit of a follow-up, I live in the Middle East and contacted a PreSonus dealer here and asked about the Dante cards and a few other items related to the RM/AI series. Here was his reply:

"Regarding the DANTE Card, I think it’s discontinued but I will check"

On several other items I received the same message back from him, even the ipad holders for AI...

Can anyone here confirm this?

If true then I would assume that RM/AI are nearing the end of service. It would be very nice if PreSonus decided to give all RM/AI owners Dante cards at a reduced cost --- although those of you who already bought them would not benefit.. : (

Also is there a particular Dante card I should look for? Were there multiple versions or do they all have the Brooklyn II chip or not?

A manufacturer, like presonus, buys a special card/chipset (in most cases the brooklyn 2) from audinate then they have to build their own electronics around it to fit its purpose.

So, there exist only one card for your mixer and it comes directly from presonus.

"Cards at a reduced cost" - good idea! ;-) Ray Tantzen wrote about this theme on March 15, 2017: "We're also planning to offer some promotions on Dante option cards for those who can address their needs by going that route. I'm trying to finalize those deals now so we can roll them out ASAP. Once they are rolled out, registered users will get an email about it and I'll also post it here."

I suppose the manufacturing of AI products and assessoires has stopped some months already. On Sept. 27, 2017 Ray Tantzen wrote: "AVB networking on the AI platform will continue to work as a solution for connecting an AI console with an RM/RML rack mixer as a stage box, as well as cascading two RM/RML mixers to create a 64-channel system." The decision about the future of the AI family was made somewhere between March and September and yes, the AI products definitely "will continue to work" for the next 10 years or so. But this doesn't mean that sales continue. Already now it is nearly impossible to buy RM/RML rack mixers and CS controllers in Germany, where I am living, but both option cards (Presonus SL-Dante-Mix 549,- Euro, Presonus SL-AVB-Mix 319,- Euro) are widely available. And when the shops run out of stock, the importer can deliver them for some time. They surely will sell the last part they have on stock - with pleasure...! Then and only then is the time to think about using a term like "discontinued", I suppose.

IMHO 549,- Euro for a Dante card does not at all sound like "promotion".

Thank you for your reply.

The reason I ask this is that during my research looking for the Dante card I found what appears to be two different cards.

If you do a quick search on Ebay (https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R ... e&_sacat=0) or Reverb (https://reverb.com/marketplace?query=presonus%20dante) ---or even some of the retail sites... you can find cards that have images which are quite different form each other. One has a green board and the other has a red board.

Due to the current situation with PreSonus' "3rd Party AVB" problem -- I would like to make sure I get the last version of the Dante card that would be least likely to have issues for the future.

Maybe they are all the same, maybe someone knows here... maybe the pics are wrong. Just would like to be sure : )

There are indeed two Presonus Dante cards. One fits the mixers and one fits the AI series speakers. All my Presonus kit has them (mixers and speakers) they work well.

Checking the credible sources there seems to exist a red dante card and a green dante card for the mixers. Presonus own shop shows the red one.

I have no idea of what the difference is but looking at the pictures they look quite different on the surface with components not in the same places. I'd try to get the latest one since they obviously spent a good deal on redesigning the card...

My guess is that the green one is the more recent one since the first announcement for the dante card showed a red one. But as I said, that is just a guess.

The SL-AVB-Mix Option card (for Ai mixers)

Green Dante card:
https://www.thomann.de/se/presonus_sl_dante_mix.htm

Red Dante card:
https://www.bax-shop.se/expansionskort- ... aQQAvD_BwE

Both are listed as for StudioLive rm/ai mixers and the pictures seems to verify this... Presonus own shop only shows the red one.

Hence the confusion...

I received an answer from support about the fact that there are 'different looking' cards for the same purpose (RM/AI)

"There is no difference in the two cards in terms of function and part number. Some photos were taken and used when the product wasn't fully released and things like green versus red PCB boards are just variances in manufacturer builds. The red would be the latest in terms of "build". For future reference, whenever you have a question about one of our products looking different in several photos, always go with our website as it will have the latest. "

Pointless bump.... Any chance of a version 4 firmware update Presonus?

I agree, Audinate has continued to improve Dante, and those of us that made the decision to use Presonus products are being left behind! AES67 support would be amazing, and could potentially allow for RM series to be semi-compatible with Series III consoles! Likewise, AES67 support on the Series III side could potentially allow Dante Virtual Soundcard to record over network on windows based PC's.
