Distorted recording in Capture 2

Hello!
Running a 24.4.2. AI with a Firewire connected, Win 7 PC.
Capture seems to be running properly, connection is good and controls seem to work.
Tried to record a practice session - meters look fine, everything seems to work.
Attempted to play it back and it was heavily distorted. Thought it might be a latency issue transmitting back to the mixer. Saved it as a Wav and when playing it back, the distortion seems to be in the recording process itself.
Any help in figuring this issue out would be helpful as I can see a lot of use for this portion of the software suite.
