Hi there,

I'm a composer looking to branch out into iPad composition for my long train ride to my school. I am hoping to invest in either Notion or SP4 but have heard mixed things about both.

What are your takes?

I love the Symphony Pro people—and am pleased they are making the software. That said, you aren’t going to find another mobile application with the power of Notion; plus there is a benefit that anything you do on Notion for Win/Mac transfers to the iPad. This means that you can actually add some things to a score that you can’t actually do on the iPad.

Add to this Notions wonderful sounds, and affordable sounds on iPad, and there isn’t really any comparison. I do legitimate work on Notion for iOS—I can’t do that work on Symphony Pro.

I would say that Notion is expensive compared to other programs I have used (LilyPond is open source), but it is probably the best notation software for iOS. By the way, Symphony Pro 5 has been released.

Well, many people think that Notion is too expensive but personally I think it is worth it.

For what these apps do, they are not at all expensive. I would get both (as I have). You can defer Handwriting recognition, so far I’m frustrated with it on both. (Symphony Pro is version 5 now).

I haven’t settled on one or the other yet (just got them last week). I’m still on a learning curve with both, and lots of things I haven’t figured out how to do yet. I’m leaning towards Notion because it seems to have better support.

I think Symphony Pro includes all instrument voices, where Notion has some that are in-app purchases, though the starter set seems pretty good. Ideally, you could use AudioBus or Interapp Audio to include more sounds, but this isn’t a DAW so it might not be a good fit.

I would also get Music Scanner, so you can scan sheet music and create MusicXML that you can import to either app. MusicXML is also a way you could transfer form one to the other.

Nice post. I learn something totally new and challenging on sites I stumbleupon on a daily basis. It will always be helpful to read through articles from other authors and practice a little something from other sites.

I think I still prefer Symphony Pro. ... My biggest complaint with both Notion and SP, as compared to Finale Simple Entry, is that with Finale, I can ...[url]https://surveyz.onl/telltims-tim-hortons-survey/

Hi....my experience is restricted, however here is the thing that I know:/Notion couldn't import midi records from Cubasis. SP has exactly the intended effect 2/SP can't part fights without any problem. All in all, import a midi record iof a two gave piano piece and everything shows up on one staff. Parting them on SP is close to inconceivable. Don't think about Notion. Anybody understanding know whether Notion can part midi effectively to at least two fights?
