Does anyone know why if i have a layer (such as a kick drum pattern), if i then try to record another layer (such as a snare pattern), rather than layering it over with the kick pattern exactly as it was it seems to shift notes around and completely mess up the pattern of both layers?

It works fine just drawing the notes in, i only get this issue when recording a layer on top of what is already there.
