I am struggling to get my Custom Rules to work correctly and consistently. I noticed that the order of the rules has a lot to do with it, but I'm not fully understanding this concept. How do I place the rules in terms of their order? Really need help with this...

Ok, I somewhat understand that. So the rules have to also follow the order that they fall in the score right?

The rules are run in order so last rule wins.
If two rules have the same condition then last rule wins.

So, if you have a general rule, say, for STACCATO notes, but a specific rule for staccato notes when the instrument is the CLARINET, then you should write the rules in this order too. This way, the 'staccato AND clarinet' condition triggers something that overwrites the general staccato rule.

So as a general rule it's best to put the general rules before the specific ones.

It's not difficult at all. A rule set It's not really a 'program', but just a list of instructions with no branches, loops or flow control. I suggest to make some test rules that, for instance, change the note to a high fixed pitch so you can identify if Notion identifies the condition. Then you apply the instruction you really want.
