It's "PreSonus Sphere", but so what . . . :)

THOUGHTS

There are sound files for Studio One Professional and for NOTION . . .

They are not the same, and they are installed separately . . .

For Studio One Professional, they mostly are synthesizers that have presets and sounds . . .

For NOTION, they are sounds for various instruments . . .

[NOTE: I do not use PreSonus Sphere, but instead have each of the fully licensed products (Studio One Professional and NOTION) . The sound files, synthesizers, and so forth are downloaded from the User Area for the individually licensed products, but it's different when you are using PreSonus Sphere . . . ]

The best information I found indicates the key is to use something called "PreSonus Hub", which should be available when you login to PreSonus Sphere . . .

This link to PreSonus Sphere support looks like it might be helpful:

If you are doing this on the Mac, then this might help:

PreSonus Hub is not working (PreSonus Sphere Support)

Lots of FUN! :)

THANKS! I figured it out by using the incredibly well thought out and elegantly presented video which was placed in such an obvious place on the sphere assets page that only a grumpy old poop who's not used to such thoughtful things would miss. Next time first and then squawk if need be.

It is indeed lots of fun!

Notion bundled sounds must be downloaded from the Notion 6 product page in your sphere.presonus.com account. The expansion sounds are also in your account under Notion Instruments. You will find these both in Products.

PreSonus Hub is not the answer because PreSonus Hub is for using Studio One plugins in 3rd party DAWs. It has nothing to do with Notion.

Thanks for the clarification and information! :+1

THOUGHTS

At the time, I knew very little about PreSonus Sphere, so mostly was guessing and providing some links that appeared possibly useful . . .

Since then, as you know, PreSonus has released Studio One Professional 6, which has been a significant change here in the sound isolation studio, because it does not support ReWire . . .

I subscribed to PreSonus Sphere to get Studio One Professional 6 and verified that it does not support ReWire . . .

Rollback the clock about a month or so, and my strategy was based on ReWire sessions where Studio One Professional 5.5 was the ReWire host controller and NOTION 6.8 was the ReWire helper device, which was excellent for what I need to do . . .

With no ReWire in Studio One Professional 6, one might expect that this would be a bit earth-shattering, but after doing some not so difficult experiments I discovered that it's not a problem, at all, because Studio One Professional 6 has a very nice flavor of NOTION, which (a) does everything I need to do and (b) is quite an amazing bit of software engineering . . .

I am discovering more about this, and the more I discover, the more I like it . . .

For a while, I was wondering why one might need NOTION, and all that came to mind was (a) custom rules and (b) live performance enhancements . . .

I do not use custom rules, and generally avoid articulations, dynamics, and playing styles, preferring instead to do the latter with effects plug-ins in Studio One and specifying the way VSTi virtual instruments are played by selecting matching sampled-sounds, where for example if I want something played legato, then I select a set of samples where the instrument is played legato . . .

I control dynamics with a combination of compressors, limiters, and "ducking"--with Pro-C2 (FabFilter Software Instruments)--in Studio One Professional . . .

After reading all the posts in the Studio One 6 topic, it appears that folks use it to do live shows, and this tends to suggest it does what NOTION does for live performance accompanying and enhancing . . .

If the "Show" aspects of Studio One Professional 6 do this, then excellent . . .

It's not something I need to do at present, but so what . . .

If I have some time with nothing else to do, then perhaps I will get more information on it . . . :reading:

I am finishing work on one of the chapters in my ongoing science fiction radio play, and I am doing it in ReWire sessions with Studio One Professional 5.5 as the ReWire host controller and NOTION 6.8 as the ReWire helper device, which is coming along nicely . . .

[NOTE: Everything I do is mixed for headphones and Apple AirPods listening . . . ]

For the next chapter, I am doing everything within Studio One Professional 6, and it's also coming along nicely, which is excellent . . .

[NOTE: The is the Studio One Professional 6 prototype, and it was done before I discovered how to provide names for the staves . . . ]

A year or two ago when MOTU and Reason Studios stopped supporting ReWire, it was clear that the days of ReWire were ending; and this was something I dreaded, actually . . .

Yet, Studio One Professional 6 provides the solution, and I can do everything I need to do solely within Studio One Professional 6 essentially in the same way as using NOTION in a ReWire session--except that (a) it does not require ReWire and (b) it does not require using NOTION . . .

The PreSonus software engineers have made NOTION an integral part of Studio One Professional 6 and might have done this in earlier versions, although I have not done experiments to verify it--mostly because I had no reason to determine if there was an alternative to ReWire sessions in the PreSonus universe . . .

I have been doing Windows software engineering since 1987 and macOS software engineering since early-2000; and while one might suppose I can do just about anything, my focus tends to be a bit lazy but practical in the sense that if I find an easy way to do something, then I use it and stop exploring . . .

A few days ago, I noticed that the staves in the Studio One Professional 6 "Edit" window for music notation did not have names like staves in NOTION; but after some Graphic User Interface (GUI) examining, I discovered there is an easy way to give them names like {L. Kick Drum, R. Kick Drum, EB-0 Bass, Wurly, Hammond B-3X, and so forth), as well as to show one staff, a select set of staves, or all the staves, which actually is easier in Studio One Professional 6 than it is in NOTION . . .

I plan to continue posting in this forum, even though I am going to start doing everything in Studio One Professional 6; and the reason is that music notation is the focus here, which is different from the focus in the Studio One forum, at least insofar as I have been able to determine . . .

Yet, should it become necessary, I can freeze everything on the Apple 27" iMac (2013) and move forward on a newer Apple 27" iMac, which I might do anyway . . .

I already have Mac Pro (Early-2008 and Mid-2010) machines that essentially are frozen in time, so one might suppose the more the merrier . . . :P

Other World Computing has some more recent Apple 27" iMacs for affordable prices, which is nice . . .

It's all good, and I am very happy with Studio One Professional 6 and PreSonus Sphere . . .

Lots of FUN! :)
