The latest Tensivity release is Grainger's Spoon River. Inspired by Edgar Lee Master's "Spoon River Anthology" and a mid-nineteenth century fiddle tune of the same name.
American Music Folk-Settings consists of a single melody ('Spoon River'), taken from a fiddle tune. This theme was arranged by Grainger for three formations: Orchestra ('Elastic Scoring'), Piano Solo, and 2 Pianos 4 Hands. Each arrangement is structurally slightly different (i.e. the ochestral version is longer than the piano solo version).
I've recorded the elastic version with piano, 8 strings, flute, clarinet and harmonium. I like the immediacy and intimacy of the more sparsely instrumented version. VSL piano, harmonium and winds, Kirk Hunter Spotlight Strings. All placed with VSL MirPro, and mastered using Lurssen Mastering Console from IK Multimedia. It's an impressive mastering plug-in.
