I posted an excerpt from the orchestral version of this work earlier here. This is the complete Suite for 13 Instruments, written as a ballet for the Martha Graham Dance Company in 1943-44.
I've been working on this piece for over 5 years, picking it up and setting it aside, most of that time spent in transcribing the score into Notion. The production of the recording started about a month ago. My goal was to produce a recording to prove that a long demanding work could be successfully presented using virtual instruments and result in a compelling listen. You can tell me if you think I've succeeded. The score was transferred to Studio One for recording using Embertone Intimate Strings, Spitfire Studio Woodwinds, and Sound and Light Concert Grand. I added automation envelopes for things like dynamics, expression and vibrato of the instruments, as well as tweaked the notes for phrasing and humanization. One challenge with this piece is the fast repetitive notes that can sometimes sound shot-gunned, along with fast runs on the winds and piano. The VST instruments I chose seem to handle these well. I am still convinced that the Embertone Intimtae Strings are unmatched for sound and controllability. They are in need of updating but they are still very powerful instruments. There are nine solo instruments used here (2 Violins I, 2 Violins II, 2 Violas, 2 Cellos, and a Bass). Feedback and thoughts are always greatly appreciated. phpBB [audio]

Well, MM, you've hit another one out of the ballpark! Fine job on negating the shotgun effect. For example, the rapid notes around the 11 and 12 minute marks sound very natural indeed.
