AudioBox 1818VSL, 44VSL and 22VSL

I'm not sure if this problem is due to the interface or some other issue.

When recording through my Audiobox, I can only use it for a few minutes before the sound starts getting distorted/glitchy, almost like it's being run through a bitcrusher. Sounds similar to what happens with CPU overload problems, but when I monitor the CPU load it's at a reasonable level.

Recording in Ableton but the same issue happens in other programs. I can increase the buffer size but the issue still happens. If I turn the audio engine off and on again, the issue is resolved, but then will happen again a few minutes later.

I do have an older iMac with not great specs. But again the CPU load doesn't seem to be the actual issue.

I did find someone with a somewhat similar problem on another forum and the solution for them had something to do with the USB ports on their system? But I didn't quite understand it.

I don't have great technical knowledge so forgive me if I'm a dumbass, but I'm at a loss for what to do. I've reinstalled the drivers plenty of times.

I know this is an old post but on the off chance someone is having a similar issue there are a few things that cause these issues. First thing is overtaxed computer. Asking too much of a computer doing digital recording will cause dropouts which will sound like static/distortion etc. Presonus posts a MINIMUM specification processor and ram spec. These are MINIMUM and if your trying to do this with less than 8 gigs of ram your going to have issues. Not all cables are the same... a cheap cable can cause nothing but trouble. Not all USB audio ports are equal. If you cannot find a "primary USB port ..usually a powered hub will circumvent these issues. I always keep one or two on hand as there have been numerous solutions that were the result of these devices. and finally a clean install and maximizing the computer for digital audio is always a great beginning, and keep the recording computer OFF the internet!

Are you using a USB hub with the 44VSL plugged into it? I did that and was getting clicks, then distortion, then total garbage - even just playing YouTube videos (didn't even need to be the DAW). I unplugged the unit from the USB hub and ran it straight into my Mac Mini with the M1 chip. Sounds great now. I think the USB multi port I was using could not keep up with the signal transfer. If you are running it direct already, then check your CPU, Memory & Disk levels to make sure your computer is keeping up. Hope this helps.

This worked for me! I have an "Amazon Basics" branded USB multiport that has worked for years until now. Bypassing it and sending the audiobox direct to PC works. Time for a new one.
Thanks
Curt
