AudioBox 1818VSL, 44VSL and 22VSL

Greetings, guys - 1st post here.

I bought a Presonus 1818VSL.

I have it working with my computer - Linux based.

BUT, on the Ops Manual pages 9 and 10, the diagrams ...

2.3 Typical Band Hookup Diagram, and
2.4 Speaker-switching Hookup Diagram

...there are no computers involved.
So I assumed (before buying this) that having my instruments and microphones connected to the unit, and the unit connected to a set of powered studio monitors from the Main Output - as displayed on diagram 2.3! - I'd get sound from this unit.... and I don't.
I can see the instruments cliping, if I set the gain too high, but there's nothing coming out of the Main Outputs....

So, is this supposed to be like this? (always needs a computed to provide sound to the Main Outs)?
Or is my unit broken and I need to send it back?

Sorry, guys, if you felt some frustration in my words - but that's very real

The 1818, from my understanding, needs to be connected to a PC to function. What I am not sure of is if that requirement went away when the VSL software was removed from the driver. What version of UC are you using?

I am not able to use the 1818VSL as a "standalone" interface without the computer either. Like yourself, I have no audio whatsoever. I tested this by unplugging, and then plugging-back-in, my USB cable. Unplugged, the sync-light on the box turns red and the audio is gone. When I plug it back in, the syn-light turns blue and the audio comes back on.

I need to test this further to see if the box will function and produce audio with my I-pad connected wirelessly to it only, and not connected (by USB) to my Win 10 PC laptop.

NOTE: I have decided to and have rolled-back to the latest "legacy" version (1.3) of the VSL software client and driver. It seems to work the best, and also allows me to use all of the internal processing features of the VSL series audiobox.

Exactly. The VSL series MUST be connected to a computer to function. They cannot be used as a standalone mixer/preamp.

This may not be so bad if you hook up and configure a small Windows 7 to Windows 10 notebook, Tablet, or miniature computer with a SSD (solid state drive) to be used specifically/only for the purpose of using/driving your VSL series Audiobox. They make computers now that are the size of a Roku box or small tablet, and you most likely will want to use the VSL software GUI to control (or at least "see") the controls/settings you are using in the inside of the Audiobox (the VSL/fat-channel audio processing).

Hello. Firstly, I am having trouble figuring out how to create a new post in USB Audio -> AudioBox VSL Series -> AduioBox VSL Series board.

I have a PreSonus AudioBox 44VSL and I am unable to use it. I use Linux operating systems since 1997 and no other operating system.

I see that the AudioBox 22VSL and the AudioBox 1818VSL work in linux environments, both input from microphones as well as output.

However, only audio output works with my AudioBox 44VSL, I cannot use any input audio to record or monitor from attached microphones with XLR cables. Why is this? I cannot afford the 1818VSL, but the 22VSL doesn't have enough connections for my needs.

I am using Archlinux with Linux 4.13.8 kernel.

Hello Jason,

Thank you for contacting Presonus Technical Support. Sorry to hear about the recent issues you have been experiencing.

We can not offer you a solution in relation to your Linux issue as we do not support Linux.

However, you may be able to find some community assistance on the VSL forum: viewforum.php?f=191

I am confident that particularly the humans that get paid hourly or salary are the most likely to be able to assist more so than any human that is not a paid employee for PreSonus.

And particularly, it is relatively suspicious that the AudioBox 22VSL and the AudioBox 1818VSL work in Linux environments with both audio input and audio output, but the AudioBox 44VSL only works for audio output and not audio input.

The 22VSL is smaller than the 44VSL.
The 1818VSL is bigger than the 44VSL.

Why would the middle grade device be dysfunctional with Linux whilst the others are functional?

And which humans would be able to have the competency, knowledge, familiarity or understanding to explain as to why?

Are there any non-PreSonus paid employees that have any familiarity or expertise to explain why that are not prohibited by nondisclosure agreements or other secrecies?
