If I purchase an Audiobox 1818, can I connect /or daisy chain my Firestudio 2626 with it as a preamp from ADAT ?

The 2626 is not supported as a stanalone device. Sorry. Take a look at the forthcoming Studio 192, which is pretty close to the feature set that the 2626 had.
Good luck. |
No worries. I assume you are trying to wring the last few years of usability from the 2626?
One thing to note. The message is that it is not supported. Sometimes things like this CAN work (can't say for sure in this instance), but if something wonky happens, any tech support options are out. Good luck. |
I can verify this......IT DOES NOT WORK. I have both an 1818 & 26x26. The 26x26 will not operate in standalone. You can add more inputs to either one with an ADAT converter but you cannot daisy chain the two together. I had hoped to do the same but it just doesn't work. What makes it even more frustrating is that initially it DID!! When the 26x26 was first released it did, in fact, operate in standalone. But down the line this feature was removed with a firmware "upgrade". I don't know why but that's the deal. I've had a long discussion with tech support about this very issue and, unfortunately, there is no way to roll back the firmware.
That being said my 26x26 works great with my Digimax D8 as does the 1818.

If I get a Digimax D8, it should work with either device. It WILL work with either device! I've also used a Motu 2408 with both for more inputs...those are cheap used but no preamps. I also currently own a Behringer ADA8000 and that also works with both units....but it's preamps aren't as nice as the D8's.

going back to this...Just to clarify, My Firestudio 2626 Works In Standalone mode, perhaps I did not do the dreaded Firmware Upgrade. So, if my firestudio works in standalone Mode, can I use my firestudio2626 as a Preamp using the Adat Optical? I am now considering a Motu Ultralite AVB as my new interface, as firewire for Audio Interface is now obsolete in my Mac Mini (Late 2009) Upgraded to 8gb RAM and 500 gb SSD. I also want to be able to use my Windows 10 laptop as well, so I can use Studio One in both Computers.

onerib2 wroteIf I purchase an Audiobox 1818, can I connect /or daisy chain my Firestudio 2626 with it as a preamp from ADAT ? Yes .... The FireStudio 2626 WILL work as an ADAT expander when connected to the AudioBox 1818 VSL ..... but there are somethings you need to be aware of ..... 1- The FireStudio 2626 defaults to 48k sample rate so set your sessions and the AudioBox 1818VSL to 48k. 2- To setup the FS 2626 you MUST connect it to a computer. via Firewire .... then make all the necessary changes ... Example - Making sure the FS 2626 Clock Mode is set to Internal, or Word or ADAT etc. Setup any special routing you may need, Things like that. Now when you turn off the FS 2626, it remembers the last setup you made, so when you connect it to the AB 1818VSL via ADAT... you will be able to use it as an external 8 channel preamp. If you want to modify the settings of the FS 2626 while it's connected to the AB 1818VSL .... you will have to keep the FS 2626 connected via Firewire. I've recorded my band this way, using all 18 inputs of the AB 1818VSL. My hook up was ... 8 Mics into the AB 1818VSL 8 Mics into the FS 2626 then Out via ADAT into the AB 1818VSL 2 Mics into an Audient MiCO then out via Spdif into the AB1 818VSL. If I remember correctly ... The AB 1818VSL was the Clock Master, so I connected the Word Clock out if the AB 1818VSL via a 75 ohm BNC cable to the FS 2626 Word Clock In .... then connected the Word Clock out of the FS 2626 to the Word Clock In of the Audient MiCO. Make sure to "Terminate" the Word Clock out of the Last device connected via Word Clock. You could do that with a BNC terminator ... or (in the case of the Audient MiCO) with a switch on the device ... or (in the case of the FS 2626) in the FireControl or Universal Control software. Hope this was helpful. PhireAlly
