I have a Lenovo ThinkPad W520 and a SYBA 2-port 1394a ExpressCard to Firewire
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... D-EXP30012 I'm been using my Windows desktop with firewire to record with no problems and no noise. As soon as I unplug the firewire from my desktop there is some noise on all channels expecially channel 2. I plug it on the laptop and noise is still there. Plug it back to the desktop noise is gone. What could be causing this, I know the firestudio project works fine on my desktop so why is the laptop giving me noises? |
Even though the VIA chipset is on the approved list, they have been know to be pretty flakey. TI chips are preferable.
Before you do anything else, are you using the same firewire cable for the Desktop and Laptop? Are both computers plugged in to the same circuit? Is there anything hooked to FSP that is different from PC to Laptop? |
why is the laptop giving me noises? It could be any number of things. Have you optimized your laptop for audio production? Are you using a wireless USB mouse? Have you disabled wi-fi? Did you try running the laptop on battery...laptop adapters have been know to introduce noise. That being said we can help you better in the future if you will post your system specs in your signature, (see my sig), we will be better able to troubleshoot your problems. Without knowing what type of pc you're running, what OS you're using, what DAW etc....we often can't recommend a "simple fix"

Lenovo Thinkpad W520, Windows 7 bit, 8 GB RAM, Intel i7 Processor Studio one V2 SYBA 2-port 1394a ExpressCard to Firewire IEEE, 34mm, SD-EXP30012 Custom Build Windows 7 64 bit, GB Ram, Intel I7 4770k Studio One V2 VANTEC 3-Port FireWire 400 PCIe Host Card Model UGT-FW200 I have tried the laptop with no battery, wifi off, both using the same firewire cable still noise. What is strange is that the firestudio project has like a phone tone noise when its not plugged in to the desktop via firewire, plugging in to the laptop reduces the phone like noise but still there |
Can't find any info on the chipset for the desktop card.
Can you capture and post the noise so we can hear it? are you running the "Legacy" 1394 drivers for Win 7? That can help too. In device manager, select the firewire, and under drivers for the device, windows legacy is an option. Make sure that's selected. |
