It occurs strange to me that
- there is no official support for macos 10.15 Catalina - there is no driver download for macos 10.15 catalina: refering to https://www.presonus.com/produkte/de/Fi ... /downloads - No Universal Control downloads available for macOS 10.15 Catalina. But: Universal Control still works if you upgrade from macOs 10.14 to 10.15 |
Nothing unusual there. Just because a product is no longer supported that does not automatically turn it into a paperweight. It really just means no more tech support. But it may, (or may not), work on a newer OS. I've got some old interfaces that were not supported past WinXP that work just fine on Win10. Sometimes it does require a clever workaround. But I've always been good at jamming square pegs in round holes.....LOL!!

But Presonus sais they are not able to create drivers for Catalina. Irritating to me.
----------------- I can read in this article, that there will be no firewire driver for macos catalina and therefore I want to tell you that I am not lucky about that. My Presonus Firestudio project works fine and I love the sound and how it works with my mac. Can you please provide a mac driver for catalina for firestudio project. https://support.presonus.com/hc/en-us/a ... Statement- ---- Avatar Camille O'Kelley January 08, 2020 22:03 Hello Ulrich, Thank you for contacting us. Unfortunately, we will not be able to create Catalina drivers for our products listed in the article you referenced. This is due to limitations we face when trying to make significantly older products work with much newer operating systems (specifically Catalina). Your FireStudio is still compatible with Mojave and Windows operating systems. If rolling back your operating system to a compatible version is not an option then I encourage you to consider the new Quantum 2626 interface: https://www.presonus.com/products/Quantum-2626/features Kind regards, Camille O'Kelley US Inside Sales |
sikozptl wroteUniversal Control still works if you upgrade from macOs 10.14 to 10.15 It is not that strange. The driver works, because there has not so much changed on the audio side of MacOS. The changes were applied to the way you install drivers (.kext-files). There is no way to install a driver that is not signed by Apple. And that is the point. Getting this signature costs money. When your driver is already installed, Apple just leaves it on your system. Just a new install requires the signature. So updating an old computer might be possible, but don't buy a new one, if you're not willing to throw your good and working interfaces away.

If you don't want to buy a NEW interface......buy an OLD computer.
MUCH cheaper option. Old computers are a dime a dozen.
