I have a FireStudio Mobile as the soundcard for my MIDI/Audio system and it has performed very well once I kept it powered by AC. However, recently line input 5 seems to have gone dead. All I can hear is a very faint sound. All the other inputs seem to be fine, and switching instruments and cables has no impact. Even in different DAWs - whatever is on channel 5 (typically one of my mono synths) does not come through.
Mac OSX El Cap, Mac Mini Server Corei7, 8 GB memory, latest Universal Control (1.73). Any ideas on what could be the problem? |

Given that you've tried all that it certainly sounds like a hardware problem......could be as simple as a dirty jack. You might want to open it up and hose it with contact cleaner. If that doesn't get it you might want to consider having it serviced for a flat fee of...I believe $85....they'll fix whatever's wrong plus you a get a year's extended warranty. Oh...BTW....you did check your settings in UC yes?

Okay, good suggestion - I'll try and clean the jack. Is the flat fee repair through PreSonus? $85 is cheaper than a new interface....
I did check UC and there does not appear to be a problem. The settings do not vary for channel 5. That said, wish there was some sort of tutorial on UC - especially how it relates to Audio/MIDI set up. Honestly, I don't understand how to utilize it though I get it to function if that makes sense. |
Yes, the repair is through Presonus. To initiate a repair ticket go here:
http://www.presonus.com/support/repairs With UC if you have the mixer tab open and the fader is up and the mute button is not engaged on CH5 you should have normal sound on that channel.

That's because you're using a Firestudio Mobile. I do not have a Mobile. I have a 26x26. My device shows up differently. But the same basic concept applies. My point was that in YOUR mixer view....which you've posted....that because the fader is UP and the mute button is OFF then UC is NOT the problem. Which returns us to the original conclusion that the problem is likely the hardware itself.
