Hi there guys
I am here today to prompt a little bit of discussion.
I've seen a lot of people and blogs discussing Kontakt and a couple of other VTS samplers for instruments and effects and this really got me intrigued. I mean I've just recently added Presonus add-ons to my S1 and I thought that all the samples and Fx that they offer were good enough to do a lot. I am learning to use effects such as the compressor and EQs and this is really cool and different for someone like me who started to song write using GarageBand for iPad. I haven't even explored to the fullest all of the Presonus libraries and all the possible things that I can do with it, but from what I read around the web, people don't seem to use their own DAWS samples and their DAWS instruments for their songs, so this got me wondering. Should I stop expanding on Presonus add-ons an invest better in external VTS?
Are there any external VTS essentials that might support the S1 built-in elements.
Do you guys make these decisions based upon on what? I know that this might seem something regarding music preferences and the Daws limitations, but I am just wondering and a bit confused with too many possibilities and universes that they are out there.

I would say, in this order (mmv), 1. Need. 2. Want.

Need = You're producing commercial music, which (unlike hobbies) is an investment, and for the best arguable or possible return on your investment, you want the best sound you can afford, so you buy expensive third party sample libraries... or hire real musicians.

Want = You just want to collect good stuff and don't care how much it costs and aren't doing anything musically commercially, but can afford it.

Imo, most home production users don't really "need" expensive Kontakt libraries, they more just want them as they do sound better. Otoh, if you're a small production room and clients are using your sampled sounds, you do want to give them really great sounds, and they're paying for it anyway in the end, subsidizing all of it.

Depends on your budget and goals. If all you're doing is making music for fun, spending $1000 on a collection of sampled libraries might be ... not a great move financially. Otoh, if you're flush with cash and can afford it, buy the best of everything.

Cool, nice to hear your words and your perspective man.
From my side, I wish I could have the money for those investments that I didn't realize they existed, this is why I am a little bit concern of falling behind for not being able to afford greater things and for pure ignorance basically. I am self-made in music and I thought, "okay if I learn this DAW it might gimme the resources that I need to expand my sound". I wasn't expecting for it not be the best sounding without third-party samples. I am working with what I can here, hoping for some commercial success may allow getting better stuff.

I hear you. I would only ask ..."falling behind what or whom?" There's often two different things happening in DAW land and it's often hard to know which is which from a distance...

1. The serious music producer (producing for him or herself and others) whose standards are high and whose goals are lofty..
2. Others just maybe chasing the Internet Jones'es where no matter what they buy (under a certain price) someone else always says it's not good enough and they're always second guessing themselves. . :)

I'd say just make yourself happy (musically), whatever that means for you.

Good luck to you. There's some great sampled stuff out there. Mach 5 (the third partly sample libraries for it) is pretty nice also. I actually prefer the Mach 5 UI but Kontakt is a bit more efficient, or at least was for me.

Before spending your money on VSTs…

Since this was posted under 'Studio One Prime and Demo' I assume that's what you have. Then a heads up on S1 Prime and Artist: These versions of S1 don't support 3rd party VST integration (although Artist has it as an add-on option). So you may want some money to go towards S1 Pro (or Artist + Add-on) first... :)

Also, Studio One's Open Air reverb is truly great... demo video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pmnCTtLous
And don't forget Studio One's awesome channel strip, with 3 choices of compressors and eq's... walkthrough video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuxCmnJSm-o

And there's SO much more for free. Don't spend a penny until you use all of this stuff.

There are SOOOOO many choices, and SOOOO many ways to spend money that you really don't need to spend.

But if you use all of this stuff, and still are looking for something else, post again. Somebody will surely swing by and load you back up with more high quality stuff at no cost.
