Is the faderport (8 or 16) the way to go over the studiolive mixers? I don't need the mixer preamps and prefer to use my current audio interface, but looking for the most integrated DAW control. Great deals on the faderport and S1 right now, that it seems to make sense and get the controller now too. With my little knowledge, it looks like the live mixers however seem to offer more control with the higher price tag.....from the preamps, etc... or the extra control??
Thx to a future S1 user.

Lots of options.
If you really like your interface, then the FP8 is great for control. Of you can afford it the FP16 is even better.

If preamp control is needed a 2nd hand 192 would be the least expensive route.

If you want preamp control and killer latency Quantum’s are great.

The Studio Live III mixers are impressive and are on the brink of having full S1 control. In that case you would probably use out of the box monitoring for recordings

So it all depends on you priorities and budget.

thx for the quick reply. Budget isn't too much an issue. Just wondering if I should hold out until the Studio Live III mixers have full S1 control over the FP16. ...with the Live III having superior features and control.

That said, the preamps in the Live III aren't really required. Looking for best control in editing/mixing mainly... and of course tracking with the zero latency monitoring, monitored FX....record dry, etc. If the Live III is a good interface, I don't have problems ditching my current... not like it's an RME, Lynx, etc. Just a regular Steinberg....so not much money....just already owned.

Good choice I was going to mention that plus a Quantum is a real nice combination.

Also I would wait 2 to 3 months after the DAW control comes out for Series 3.
