Studio One 4.5 Signal Flow

Studio One 4.5 Signal Flow:

Description/disclaimers:
This picture is not a complete schematic of all possible flows as that is not practical with software flow due to logic or conditional flows such as Native Low Latency (Green Z) or Hardware monitoring flows (Blue Z)

This is not an official document from Presonus but meant to help understand the standard flow for routings, control and gain staging purposes. It was made through observations using Presonus signal generators, meters, and scopes.

As always, if anyone finds an error I will be glad to update the flow.

The primary flow is left to right and Audio and MIDI flows have been separated for ease of reading.

Thanks for doing this Jeff. I had your v2 wallpaper as my desktop screen and it has proven useful. I shall do the same with this

Nice! Not that I can completely wrap my head around all of that...but that diagram may come in handy for many.
* Also, I still disagree with the OP on one point...I think there are good reasons that Busses and FX Channels are differentiated from each other. ** But his post was thoughtful and constructive.

Studio One 3.1 Signal Flow.
Removed new capability circles and added best place to export from Studio One to the diagram
Image
EXPORTING AUDIO STEMS/CHANNELS for Various Reasons:
• Song Export Stems / Channels:
o Any channels including bus or FX channels
o File length equals range selected in export
o Includes all upstream processing (Channels inserts FX, Event FX, Event envelopes, Channels Fader level/pan, Mutes)
o Does NOT include Master channel settings: (Fader level, Inserts)

• Song Export Stems / Tack, or Song Export Mix down:
o Must be a track ( no bus or FX channels)
o File length equals range selected in export
o Includes The entire signal chain including master settings: (Channels inserts FX, Event FX, Event envelopes, Channels Fader level/pan, Mutes, Master channel settings: (Fader level, Inserts)

• Drag a track event to a Studio One Browser/Folder: (example: My songs events audio)
o File length equals event size (no position within song)
o Includes the audio events + Event FX + Event envelope
o Does NOT include channel or master bus processing

• Alt+ Drag a track event to a Studio One Browser/Folder:
o File length equals event size
o Includes all upstream processing (Channels inserts FX, Event FX, Event envelopes, Channels Fader level/pan, Mutes) but not master bus processing

• (Select all events with Range Tool starting at zero) Drag a track event to a Studio One Browser/Folder: (example: My songs events audio)
o A file length equals the range selected (with independent events at the correct times within song)
o Includes the audio events + Event FX + Event envelope
o Does NOT include channel or master bus processing
• <Song folder>/Media:
o Raw unprocessed files that were recorded in Studio One or Imported media (Not Soundset based loops)
o Length equals event size

Added useful detailed documentation on what, where and why to export Stems/Channel data to the signal flow diagram. (see post above)

Hi Jeff, could I ask you to create a 2560 X 1440 version of your signal flow file?
I currently use your 1920 X 1080 version but I've upgraded to a new QWHD 27" monitor which supports the higher resolution
Thanks

Hi Jeff, will you be updating this Signal Flow diagram now that v4.5 has pre-fader metering and also the input gain section?

Yes, I am just pending a few reviews.
Due to the previous one getting too complex, I have separated audio and MIDI for starters.

The signal flow diagram has been updated to 4.5.
For readability purposes, the signal has been separated into Audio and MIDI pages.
As usual, if you detect an error I will be glad to update the diagram.

Under the Bus Channel shouldn't the second "pre-fader send/pan" be "post" instead of "pre"

This is a great reference. Thanks!

I have been doing them since 2.0. There are thousands of questions about routing and they help answer them for many in the community. Probably 10-20 hours per major version.
There is always the caveats of if you see something wrong, I will update it.
