I am copying and pasting a section of vocal to an adjacent track, then editing it in Melodyne to create a harmony BUT it is also affecting the original audio on the other track. Is this to do with the way I'm copying it or something I'm not doing in Melodyne?

Melodyne edits the audio file rather than the track event. You first have to duplicate the audio file and put it on a new track to do what you want to do.

There's a difference between audio events and audio clips. The clip is the audio file in the pool. The event is a container (for the audio clip) that you can put in your arrangement. For one audio file, there only one clip in the song but you can have several events for it.

Melodyne works on clip level so it affects all events in your song. So what you need to do: Select the audio event (or the clip in the pool) and choose (Audio -> ) New Clip Version. Now you have separate versions of the clip and you can edit them differently.

By the way, the Clip Gain Envelope works on clip level too (hence the name).

Ah, the more elegant solution, from the proverbial horse’s mouth :)
