bvandy wroteThanks a lot for posting this. I have such a hard time wrapping my head around this topic. I do this by bussing and creating a monitoring track, as the "Z" button is not a feature when using the Studiolive consoles with Studio One. It would be a redundant feature, I guess, when the mixer has so many routing capabilities. I use the 16.4.2 AI mixer, but the idea should be the same. For example: You record a track on track one, via input 1. Now you want to punch in to correct errors. Create track 2. Move track one inside Studio One to track 2. Select auto punch area, arm auto punch, set track 2 input to channel 1(track 1 input also on channel 1), arm record on track two, disarm monitor button on track 2. Now arm the FireWire button for track 2, leave it disabled for track one. You are now monitoring input 1 of and via the mixer, and the output of the computer separately resulting in zero latency. You will hear back the original track back with your input to the mixer until the auto punch turns on. |
thanks...fix my problem.......

3.3.1 Monitoring
Note: Some of the changes we applied to the input metering in version 3.2.2 had some unwanted impact on the input monitoring behavior in tape style mode. Tape style monitoring now works as expected with input monitoring no longer being suspended in playback.

Where is the updated pdf located for this on Presonus' site ? Thanks In this thread. This doc is something that jpettit has been maintaining since version 1. Presonus has not published a doc for this. |
jpetit requested we post in this thread with regards to the input meter.
The chart for 3.3.1 is not correct when zlm is off, monitor is off. In this setting the meter only works when playback is stopped. It does not work in either playback or record. Here is a crappy video I made to demonstrate this. https://www.dropbox.com/s/m9wxkoyhmkjkj ... 3.mov?dl=0 Obviously this is a huge issue to those of us who do not monitor through Studio one.

I'm hoping this change wasn't intentional, as the metering behaviour has been changed and reversed over the updates.

Hi!
I dont use any of those interfaces and are not into in tape style recording. Using Apollo interface my zero latenzy monitor is ahlready taken care of and I have no need to push the monitor button on the track, I just want the meter to show my input monitor when recording, the way it has always been up until 3.3. Now when I start recording the input meter stops and are only shown when pushing the monitor button on the track, witch causes a doubling sound due to the sound traveling through Apollos mixer and the computer.. That is not acceptable of course. This should apply for all those who use Apollo, RME, MOTU, Apogee interfaces etc as well as consoles. I guess the third line from bottom in your hand book would have applied for me but in 3.3 it's not correct anymore, you don't see the meters when recording now... I just hope Presonus will take care of this for the next update, it is quite important and basic. thanks!

Cold wrotejpetit requested we post in this thread with regards to the input meter. Ok there is one more variable which is Tape Style on/off If I assume each: ZLM=off Monitor= off Tape style = off Record=Armed You are correct. The chart is off and has been corrected. (Sorry very tedious task to maintain the chart when changes are ambiguous. . ) If you turn Tape Style = On you will get the behavior you are looking for.

jpettit wroteCold wrotejpetit requested we post in this thread with regards to the input meter. I'm afraid NO. When sequenser starts, no signal. and with tapestyle I'll also get a delay-doubled sound. This is what this issue is about, there's nothing in the preferenses that will change it. Presonus must make an update where it works. And I really hope they understand that is not a small issue for some users.

danielpalm wroteI'm afraid NO. Can you answer all these questions and describe what you expect the behavior to be? This is the minimal to being able to replicate your issue. Options 1) ZLM State? 2) Tape Style State? 3) Monitor State? Scenarios 1) In the Box Non ZLM Monitoring / Soft Instrument? 2) In the Box ZLM Monitoring / Real Instrument? 3) Out of Box Monitoring / Real Instrument? Behaviors: 1) Record Meters? 2) Live Audio Monitoring? 3) Existing track Audio Monitoring?

The chart is still incorrect.
1) zlm = off 2) tape style = on 3) monitor = off 4) record ready = on During playback, the meters do not show the live input. Only during stop and record. So it is still not usable for some of us. This is with an acoustic (live) instrument being tracked. Not a soft synth. |
jpettit wrotedanielpalm wroteI'm afraid NO. Yes, I was a little inexplicit. I meant no monitor meter signal, I hear my audio signal from my soundcard (UA apollo 8) and the instrument/vocal records to disk but as I run the sequenser the meters dont show live input. As Cold replied this only concerns live instruments not softsynts. My scenario is zlm = off (N/A) tape style = off monitor = off record ready = on Meters show only during start and stop, not when recording or playing

Cold wroteThe chart is still incorrect. Ok update will update chart. So this is your required combinations? Punch in scenario. 1) Input meter shows live input. at stop, pre punch and record 2) Audio input is NOT heard pre punch (since you are monitoring on your board) 3) Existing track is heard pre punch in. 4) During record input sound is heard Correct? If so and this was working this way in 3.2 correct? Getting close to being able to report the issue. The Irony is I think they thought they were fixing issue with this particular monitoring scenario.
