Failed to Open Speakers/Failed to Open Microphone

After my previous laptop crashed, I purchased a new laptop and just loaded the Studio One 3 Artist onto it. However, each time I plug the USB cord from my AudioBox into my laptop and then run the Studio One program, as all of the Starting this and Starting that appears, about halfway through, it keeps coming up "Failed to Open Speakers (AudioBox USB)! ; Failed to Open Microphone (Realtek High Definition Audio)! ; Please make sure that the speaker configuration is set to stereo ; Please make sure that the sample rates of your recording and playback device match".
The software comes up and everything, I'm just unable to record anything.
I had Studio Artist 2 on my other laptop and was able to use that but I'm still a relative newbie to all this. Thanks for any suggestions.

Mark,
I can't see your specs.

Make sure your audioBox is working in your PC first before launching S1.
Do you have it assigned as your default audio driver for speakers and microphone?
If it is, set the buffers on 1024 and 44hz as a good starting point.
Then launch S1. When is finishes loading, go to devices and make sure the correct audio device is selected.

If none of this works, you may need to reinstall the drivers for your audiobox.

Did you install universal control? That is needed for the device driver.

Thanks to both you of who replied ! I just installed Universal Control. Wow. I no longer receive the Failed to open speaker messages. So everything is great that way now. However, I still can't seem to record anything (vocal and instrument). When I press T to open a new track and I plug my guitar into the Instrument 2 on the front of the Audiobox, I then enable the recording (by pushing the record button up top and then when I push the record button down below, the green bar starts going across like it wants to record but...when I strum the guitar, it does not record anything. I do not see any meter jumping up and down either so I'm not sure why I don't see that.
Thanks again for any help.
Mark

Press the Inputs button on the left side of the mixer to show the input meters. You should see a signal on the input you are plugged in to. If you don't, adjust the gain on the audiobox until the input meters shows around -12db on the scale. Then make sure that the input you are plugged in to is selected as the input on the channel fader you are trying to record to.

Matt-
Thanks. But I don't see any Inputs button on the left side of my laptop screen where I now have a guitar track open and ready to record. There isn't even a meter bar anywhere at all (even one that doesn't show any jumping on it). It's not there at all.
I do have my cord jack plugged into my guitar and the other end plugged into the front of the Audiobox into the number 2 hole that says Instrument.
Sorry. It's probably something very easy that I'm not doing but again I am a real novice.
Thanks for any info.

Open the mixer via the mix button on the right, then the inputs button on the left.

Ok. I clicked on the mixer button in the lower right corner and now I've clicked on the Inputs button on the left side (now that it has been selected, it has turned blue) but I dont see a meter bar anywhere on the screen top or bottom, like I did before when I had Studio One 1 before my old laptop crashed.
Where should the meter bar show up ? It used to be right within each "track" that I would open. But I don't even see a meter bar at all (even one where there is no light bouncing up on it even a fraction).
Thanks.

Did you use a template to start this new song, or did you start with a blank song? If blank song, you may need to configure the inputs/outputs. If you are just starting out, I recommend using a template for new songs. Use the template for the Audiobox USB, and all the configuring will be done. Before going any further, make sure that the audiobox is selected as the default I/O device. It should be listed on the start page, middle bottom of the page. If it doesn't show audiobox, hit configure devices, and select the audiobox from there.

Now you may have to scroll to the left on the inputs to see activity on the input meters. Input meters are different than the channel meters, which will only show up when you record arm a channel.

If you are seeing input signal, via the steps I laid out above, then the next thing to do is make sure that the channel you are recording to has the correct input selected. Do this from the mixer view. There are 2 black boxes at the top of each fader in the mixer. One shows the input selected for that channel, and the other shows the output routing.Make sure you have the correct input selected.

Matt -
Wow. Thanks so much. That was it! I had it on Windows Audio and not on AudioBox.
Thanks so very much. I have been trying to figure this out all day yesterday and today !
Thank you sir ! You are awesome. Now the real fun begins. Learning all about this new version ! Again, I had Studio One 1 before and it's been a while since I've used it. But I'm sure it will come back to me.
Have a Merry Christmas !

Hey I'm going to piggy back on this conversation... I'm having the same issue and trying to go step by step through the process you guys chatted about. First time working with anything sound as I am a mom trying to support my 13 yr old daughter's music writing addiction.
So...I'm right there will you until you mention "Universe Control". Where do I find a link to install?

For me, the problem was that for some reason my OS (Windows 10) changed Audio types within Studio One 4 from my Apollo Twin Interface to Windows Audio. Since there was nothing plugged in to the microphone or speaker ports of my motherboard I got the "failed to open..." message. To fix that I opened Studio One 4 as normal and at the main page where you choose your song or project, at the bottom you will see a link that says something like Configure Audio. Once I pulled that I up I selected my Apollo Twin again and from that point I was off to the races...

I have no idea why the system changed to Windows Audio but once I made the above change everything has been fine and it hasn't happened again.

I followed along. When I click on configure audio in studio one, audiobox is not an option. It is set to Windows Audio. The other option is Generic USB Device which gives me an error when I click on it.
