It's possible to automate pitch in Studio One for versions that include Melodyne.

The key is to add Melodyne to the track as a VST plugin effect, instead of using the "Edit with Melodyne" function on the clip. The VST plugin for Melodyne exposes automation for Pitch and Formant. But you need to get audio into the plugin for the track first. It doesn't show automatically in the plugin since it is not an ARA effect.

This is how to do it.

  1. Create an audio track that you want to put pitch automation on.
  2. Drag Melodyne to the track from the Effects area in the Browser. This adds it as a VST plugin effect.
  3. The Melodyne plugin window will have no audio showing. You need to transfer the audio into it. To do this, click the Transfer button in Melodyne on the upper-left area of the screen.
  4. Play the audio from the transport area in Studio One. Audio will start showing in Melodyne.
  5. Stop playback of audio in Studio One when you have finished transferring the desired length of audio into Melodyne.
  6. Now you can close the Melodyne plugin window. However, keep the plugin enabled and don't remove it from the track.
  7. Enable automation in Studio One (button on upper-left area of screen).
  8. Click the drop-down in the track header to select automation. If you don't have any automation on the track yet, this is the drop-down that says Display:Off. Select Add/Remove.
  9. On the right side of the screen, expand the Inserts-Melodyne area. Select Pitch (and/or Formant) and then Add. Select Close to close this window.
  10. Select Pitch from the automation drop-down.

Now automation is available on the track for Pitch.
