Well, maybe it's that I have been living under a rock...
but if you want to quickly see how long an active loop is, just toggle to the Export Mixdown window (Cntr + E) and under 'Export Range', click 'between loop' and look at the calculated duration. Voila!

This of course is a lot faster if you have Loop follows selection (Transport Bar > Options > Loop to Selection OR Cntr+Alt+P) active, as well as a default 'between loop' button activated in the Export Mixdown. All I do is click on the selection I want to know the duration of, hit Cntr + E and I get my number.
This makes exporting SFX and documenting their length a breeze.
