From the S1 main menu -> Options -> Advanced -> Audio Tab

Make sure "Release audio device in the background" option is disabled.

Thanks, it certainly works.

But i clicked that on, so that i could listen to other audio sources, without closing S1. ;-(
Why do i have this problem?

Then check your sound card setting in Sound Control Panel. In advanced tab there is an option to allow application to take exclusive control of the device.

This was extremely helpful, thank you. I had also enabled the "release audio in background" setting as this is going around the internet as the way to enable other programs to play audio, but really I think going into the audio options and un-checking "allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" is the real solution since it allows S1 to continue playback in background as well.

In S1 Artist 4.6 the "Release audio device in the background" is located in

Options/Audio Setup Audio Device Tab, Unclick, it does work. Thanks
