Good day,

I only quantize electronic music kick and bass 100% for obvious reasons. All other instruments (different genres) are always quantized 50 - 75%.

That said... Midi notes inside an event are (mostly) slightly in front of a bar's starting point. Therefore, copying a midi event (let's say a chorus piano's notes to the next chorus) is easiest and quickest by using the range tool in the arrangement area.

Sometimes Studio One will keep the notes that started before the beginning of the bar (when copying in this way) and other times Studio One will delete any notes that started before the beginning of the bar. Why is this? It must be setting I can't find.

I would like the notes that start slightly before the beginning of a bar to be kept when copying in this way.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Actually, I would rather use relative snapping (in the Snap options) which is exactly made for unquantized material. Or use Nudge Notes (by bars) via keyboard shortcut. This also keeps the relative position.

However, I can't reproduce the issue you have with range selections and instrument parts. Works reliably and as expected here.

Thank you for your reply. You make a good point and it is a good idea.

This will force me to cut the event directly before the starting notes and after the total bars I want to copy - something I actually want to avoid since it introduces 3 extra steps and zooming for the cut points. Using the range tool and then dragging the event to where it needs to be is the faster option.

I will try and figure out what the reason is to why it deletes the starting notes sometimes. If all else fails and it keeps on being inconsistent, I will adapt your method.

Thank you.

Not really. I was talking about note selections, not part or range selections in the arrangement. You don't need to cut at all.

After some thought, I get it now.

I can switch of snap, select the midi event with the range tool (including the early notes), switch on snap (as long as relative grid is on as well) and then copy the part. Works perfectly.

Thank you. This is the solution I was looking for.
