I just upgraded to SO 6 Pro from SO 5 Pro.
Exporting an MP3 from a mix in SO6 sounds better than version 5 - even though no changes were made to any parameters within the mix.
Is this possible? Has the audio export engine been improved?
I can verify this objectively by viewing the waveform and running an RMS analysis. Slight differences do exist.
This is good news, but what is the explanation?

I don't see anywhere where they've said they've updated the MP3 engine, but you never know. Just a question, why export MP3?

Intel i9 9900K (Gigabyte Z390 DESIGNARE motherboard), 32GB RAM, EVGA Geforce 1070 (Nvidia drivers).
Dell Inspiron 7591 (2 in 1) 16Gb.
Studio One Pro 6.x, Windows 11 Pro 64 bit, also running it on Mac OS Catalina via dual boot (experimental).
Presonus Quantum 2626, Presonus Studio 26c, Focusrite Saffire Pro 40, Faderport Classic (1.45), Atom SQ, Atom Pad, Maschine Studio, Octapad SPD-30, Roland A300, a number of hardware synths.

No.

There's no audible difference between the audio engine / export in Studio One 6 compared to version 5. If that's the case, then it's a bug.

If there are 3rd party plug-ins involved, make sure to try it with 6.6.1 since in 6.1 mono tracks with some buggy plug-ins inserted (such as Izotope RX7 VST2, Softube Weiss DS1-MK3 VST2 and U-He Satin VST3) may sound quieter than expected.

- Level drop on mono tracks with certain 3rd party plug-ins

Other than that, Pro EQ got some improvements and new features in 6.0 which might result in audible difference in existing songs, but honestly I doubt it.

But the audio engine sounds exactly the same.

You can check both versions with a SPL meter. They're cheap. As mentioned, it wouldn't be the MP3 conversion is any fifteenth. It's most likely you turned volume levels, inserted or remived something that changed you main output level. This is more often than not perceived as an auable improvement.

It's just a good idea to always have a sound pressure level meter on hand. ;)
Even if you don't hear a louder level, then it was a change you made, somehow enabling the song to sound better. Be it monitor mix, EQ, acoustic room change, etc. It happens.
