Hi all: I don't play keyboard or any musical instrument other than a little bit of guitar. Because of that I always create music in Studio One by adding notes one by one for each instrument followed by manually adding automation data to make the instruments sound more real. However, in my opinion the end result still sounds a little unrealistic because many of the human nuances of playing are not there. I have the SWAM saxophones and clarinets which are compatible with the TEC controller. This brings me to the topic of the TEC USB MIDI breath controller........

My question is as follows. If I have all my MIDI data in place on a particular track (without any automation data), can I press record in Studio One and do all the blowy things and head movements, etc, that the TEC controller can record so that the TEC automation data is added to the track?

Has anyone ever done this and if so, does it work?

Thanks for any answers!!!

Yes. The TEC controller (when set up correctly) just behaves like a regular MIDI keyboard that sends Modwheel / CC1 / CC11 / Aftertouch data.

Thanks Jazzundso. Given that you say that it would work, do you or anyone else here know if it would be possible to set it up in Studio One so that I could record the TEC automation data "one paramater at a tiime". What I mean is that once the MIDI data is on the track, I would go back and record ONLY the Expression for that track. Then, I would go back and record ONLY the Modulation for that same track. Then..... etc.

Is that possible or would I have to record all of the automation parts in one single pass with the TEC controller?

You can always overdub MIDI CCs. It's the default setting.

Great! Thanks for the info. Now I want to purchase the TEC controller ASAP. I wonder it those sorts of things are available used or if I have to order a new one from Sweden.
