Is there a key shortcut that will allow me to repeat playback :?:

For example:

Let's say I start playback at bar 55. At bar 65, I want the transport playback to jumpback to bar 55 without stopping and continue playback.

Is there a keyboard shortcut that can do this :?: :?: :?:

Not that I know of.

If I started playback at bar 55 when I hit the 0 key on the numpad that will stop the playback, hit it again and it will return to where I started playback, so that could change as you go along.

If you want to loop around like that you setup the loop locators and turn on loop.

Create a macro perhaps.

Hit a shortcut to execute macro which:
Marks an end loop marker.
Stops (goes to last played position).
Marks a start loop marker.
Enables loop.
Plays.

Just a pseudo-guess.

If you get one working please post it here.

Intel i9 9900K (Gigabyte Z390 DESIGNARE motherboard), 32GB RAM, EVGA Geforce 1070 (Nvidia drivers).
Dell Inspiron 7591 (2 in 1) 16Gb.
Studio One Pro 6.x, Windows 11 Pro 64 bit, also running it on Mac OS Catalina via dual boot (experimental).

Just three clicks:

- Hold Cmd and click on the ruler to set the loop start
- Hold Option and click to set the loop end
- Click on Loop (in the transport bar) to enable loop

Or you just draw a loop range, again on the ruler.

You can also assign keyboard shortcuts for "Set Loop Start" and "Set Loop End".

The problem with creating a macro is that you probably want to snap the Loop End to the next bar. Which is only possible with the "Forward Bar" command that moves the playback cursor... and this prevents a seamless playback to the loop start. Also, to return to the last play position you would need to enable "Return to Start on Stop" or fire the "Stop" command twice (which did not work in my test).

Would probably be possible with scripting but not with macros alone as far as I see.

If you don't need to snap, the macro seems to work.

Thanks everyone for your input, but all the previous suggestions above a not very user friendly and in fact convoluted work arounds to do something that should be as simple as hitting a function key or one letter or key combo on the computer keyboard or midi controller.

Want one key, you have it. Two ways actually.

* Drop a marker at the start Pont. If its your first marker, it will be mumber 4 on your keypad (1 is always loop start and 2 is always loop end). 3 is always the start marker, but that is best left at the song start.

You don't even have to press [stop] anytime you hit #4, the playhead will jump to that location. If you set up several markers, just simply select two numbers higher than that marker number. So selecting where marker #5 is, you hit #7 on your keypad. Done. One key.

*The other method is from jazzundso. Simply draw a loop out to any desired length. Select #1 on the key number pad. It is the same.

Another possibility is select to allow after stop. Selecting 0 will return to the original before it goes back to zero on the timeline. I kinda never use that but it's available.

There's really nothing convoluted about it. IMO

Assigning a key to a macro with Stop - Stop - Start will do it I guess.

First Stop stops playback, second Stop returns the playhead to where playback started, and Start then resumes playback.

Or ...

Use the Play Start Marker. EZPZ!

Playback will resume from the PSM until you move it along to the next location. I have a Controller button assigned to the Set Play Start Marker command, which sets it to the current position.

Nothing easier until mind control is implemented.

That's what a macro does and they aren't difficult. Good luck. Put in a feature request otherwise.

"Not user friendly"
"Convoluted"

Were we just corresponding with Mr. One Page?
I'm leaning towards a big "Yes"! :?

You have multiple options, many outlined previously.

A few more options:
Map the KB shortcut for "Play Selected Range" to the key of your choice.

Select what you want to play, then press your shortcut and it will play. When you press it again, it will restart at the beginning.

****
Use Looping without manually creating the loop
Turn on "Loop follows selection" (right-click Timeline, or use shortcut keys)
Select your set of bars (If Snap to Grid is On, it will get right to the barlines.)
With Looping "On" it will loop over your selection, 10 bars, 2 bars, or whatever
Select next section you want to loop/listen too, press spacebar to start and it will loop over that area.

Use Mouse:
Double-click in the Timeline will start playback at bar 55 (or wherever).
Don't move your mouse after double-click (playback starts) Single click if you want to replay, and the cursor jumps to your single click point when playback is already in progress.

Any of those can be added to a Macro button if you wish...

Play Start Marker would allow you to set start point, and a double-tap on the spacebar would go back to your Start Marker and continue playing.

TOOO Many options, use the one that makes the most sense for you...
