Studio One, version 6.0
Question - If you create a color in a track setup, then recall that setup at a later time (perhaps new song), the color evidently does not hold? This I saw in a S1v6 video. I wouldn't call the video blogger a reliable source but since it was the only topic pertaining to color during track setup, I thought I'd ask anyone having version 6. Sort of hard to believe, but I've had my doubts how Studio One holds color info in similar conditions. Example: if you save a guitar setup with corresponding plugs, perhaps Ampire or Guitar Rig 6. Also save it as green. Then if the track preset is recalled, would it be green, or some random color? Perhaps different in another song? Thanks for the check if it's not too much trouble. No rush but maybe someone might check in their next routine guitar or instrument setup. I'd hope if someone was holding to drums being tan, guitar green, bass yellow etc. That would hold in the track preset. Of course it does, right?

A quick test with 2 audio tracks of different colors ... colors come back as saved.
I'll do a more complex test soonly |

Cool. I'll try and find the video stating that. Yeah, it was a youtube channel I hadn't seen prior to v6. If he's incorrect, I'll surely add to his click bait by stating this is inaccurate. Thank. Color recall would be something I'd want for obvious reasons.

4:35 to 6:28 covers the Track Preset claims.
https://youtu.be/xL9CcwacQaE In his example, the track is an imported audio track, then saved. I suspect it wouldn't be any different for any track setup though. Not sure. Hope that sheads some light if these observations are true. Particularly on color recall. Any other info appreciated.

An audio track with Ampire and Fat Channel hold color as does EZD multichannel in a folder.
But wait, there's more! The Ampire track has a send to an FX Channel with Open Air. This also saves and recalls. And if the FX Channel isn't present, it gets created with the track. And the FX Channel is created with the color it had when the Ampire track preset was created. Man, this is sooooo much quickerer and betterer than mucking about with ISD |

Very cool! I like the ease of storing those kind of configured tracks. This is a real positive as I can save all kinds of acoustic guitar utilizing Bluecat Axiom, or electric guitar using Guitar Rig6, drums using custom mic overheads, etc, etc.
Retaining track color just makes the workflow more consistent.

In the video, the dood is *applying* presets to tracks that have already been created.
Everything I have done has been to use the presets to create the tracks. I'll experiment some with applying them, but I don't foresee that as something I would personally use. |

Ah, just read your reply.
I guess audio tracks imported have a different set of custom properties. Obviously (as I forgot) they would as they're not prepared with specific I/O in their properties. They're audio residing on a track. In that case, color wouldn't hold as the reviewer pointed to not liking. That wouldn't be a factor for me . A track prepared for recording would have routing possibilities, send, Input, FX, etc. So I can see the difference. Thanks BobF!

Short answer: Yes, track presets store and recall track colors.

What he should have done is loading the track preset, via the dialog or via drag'n'drop from the browser. Applying track presets copies channelstrip settings (volume, pan, inserts, sends etc.) to already existing channels. It does not recall any track settings (color, tempo, delay...). Track presets basically recall all track properties. Track colors, delay, transpose, time format etc. and everything in the channelstrip. Even sends. Even bus routings. Even nested busses ("Violins" going into "Strings" going into "Orchestra") and the channelstrips of these busses. You can see that in the video (from 4:13):

You know Lucas, I was watching exactly that before I posted. He right clicked in the channel, stating he was going to create a track setup. I just figured since both track and channel highlighted, that he had track access to the track edit. He was merely displaying a rather limited personal need. Not exactly covering the subject of track presets in depth at all.
