I think that S1 would be greatly improved by having a version of Live's Session View.

But back to reality... as well as the arranger track, take a look at the pattern editor:

michaelherbert4 wroteSo why, you might ask, am I enthused about learning Studio One? Well,

1) MIDI/Piano Roll editing (VASTLY superior in S1)
2) Music notation (a primary way I think about music)
3) Chord Track/chord analysis/chord symbols (also a primary way I think about music)

Bingo!

And to toss out a few more S1 gems:

4) Full-featured mix console (The folks that mix large song templates in Live are hardcore).
5) Multi Instruments (Layer or split your instruments on one instrument track).
6) Sound Variations (key switches made easy).

And haven't really used them yet, but looking to further explore the S1 Show Page, Scratch Pads, and the Project Page.

You forgot "optimized CPU use"

Sometimes in Live it's scary just loading one instance of something!

And don't forget the all-you-can-eat salad bar!!! :)

Studio One Pro (v5) on i7 7700 win10 PC w16GB RAM and a Mac Pro Tower (w/RME & Focusrite interfaces.)

I use S1 as an author/musician/multi-media artist.
My work includes the newly released: Clearing a Path to Joy (And finding contentment along the way) [AuroraSkyPublishing.com]
and my upcoming music video, Too Big To Fail, which introduces Citizen Based Social Planning — "the next step in the evolution of democracy." You know...typical everyday stuff. :)

That's probably a variable based on the specific plugin in question.

Even though Live can host 3rd party plugins, I suspect that Ableton has likely optimized it for the bundled instruments and effects.

BUT! Studio One IS optimized for 3rd party plugs. I could care less about "their" stuff.

And furthermore, in my experience, the Studio One plugs take up less CPU than the Abe's.

YMMV

To be clear, I wasn't attempting to turn this into a "Live vs.S1" comment. I actually believe that S1 is the better DAW. And I generally use my own plugins, not those bundled within a DAW.

But Live and S1 are very different. And there are certain things that only Live can do, or do better. So regardless of any performance shortcomings, Live can be a great secondary DAW to have around for creative improvisation and sound design. Just another tool!

Guilty as charged.
Though I'd like to hear more about your current project(s) you're working on than plopping your comments in on every other thread.
Post it. Would love to hear it! :+1

Well, you genuinely ask questions which sounds like you're on your way to improving your music skills.👍

I only say that not to be snooty, but to remind us of the main goal, is all.

Peace my friend.
