What are the advantages to using the pattern editor to write drum and percussion parts as opposed to the drum editor?

IOW, what can the pattern editor do that the drum editor can't? :?:

If you watch this all the way through (and there are countless others, especially recommend the ones by "Gregor" ) you'll be surprised. They are really unique, even if you don't have any of the ATOM controllers.

Musicloops. End. Stop.

This is a game changer once you see what they can do and "redo" once you start using them.

By far the most value added but oddly obscure item I have ever seen in a DAW.

Cheers

It can be terrific. What I do allot is "convert to pattern" with drum stuff. Now, in midi, I have the input quantize set (yep, I suck timing wise  ) but if you convert, you have other options that you don't have with standard midi.

If I had one complaint, it would be that there is no pre-count with "step recording" which isn't what the title is. You do NOT have to "step" things in, it's in real-time recording also. But you have to cycle through ;) I have my ATOM set up that when you hit "setup" there is a control set to "step record" which is nice to not have to use the mouse. I think you can do this on any controller, but not sure.

Just to add to what I said in another place about Scratchpads, again, when PE first came out, I was overjoyed (well, interested) - but, as with SP, I have never found a need for the PE - and I do a lot of sequenced patterns and what not, a la TD.

But hey, that just me 8-) (sidles away into the shadows)
