You have a track, you click on it and then choose a color for it… let’s say a nice lime green.. well, only when I’m on that track is the color lime green, when I click OFF of the track it’s now darker than the color I chose.
So the colors I chose, aren’t the actual colors that will be displayed… makes zero sense.

Is it just me that gets frustrated by this??

I suspect this is why S1 feels so much more darker and grim compared to other DAWs. When are we going to get a complete color overhaul with the ability to pick from a color wheel like we are in 2022? Lol

Anyone share in my confusion?

The only thing I have to say is that when a track is selected, it is "highlighted" at the time.

I'm not in the "change the color" camp. There is another thread around here about changing the GUI that also addresses color "woes" ;)

Bye......

That was me who started that thread lol.

Highlighting the track is the only time we get to see that track be the ACTUAL color we selected is weird.

I think it's great when colors are your biggest problem with Studio One :)

In keeping with the serious tone that I try to maintain here at all times, I must say, there is something suspicious about a color palette that doesn't have light colors. I was trying to pick a track color, and as earlier stated, as soon as I clicked another track, that color went dark. Lights out. All the fun of choosing my favorite fruity fresh minty colors...gone; out the window.

Left in its place, a dark shadowy presence whose intent I cannot know, or even fathom. And I think to myself, what of all those working with Studio One in houses of worship, believing that they are choosing the light, only to find themselves left in the dark; victims of the phantom shadow that lurks within this DAW. And...I weep. I weep.

[ Bowing frantically. Picking up roses thrown by the audience.]

"Thank you. Thank you. You're too kind. No really. Your applause is overwhelming."

[Holy crap. I stayed on topic. That's gotta be worth something. :) When do we get sandwiches?]

Studio One Pro (v5) on i7 7700 win10 PC w16GB RAM and a Mac Pro Tower (w/RME & Focusrite interfaces.)

I use S1 as an author/musician/multi-media artist.
My work includes the newly released: Clearing a Path to Joy (And finding contentment along the way) [AuroraSkyPublishing.com]
and my upcoming music video, Too Big To Fail, which introduces Citizen Based Social Planning — "the next step in the evolution of democracy." You know...typical everyday stuff. :)

The enemies are those who dare say anything critical of this fine DAW and its overlords. That would be us

I had a Makita circular saw. Same thing, That bland blue-green. Blows my mind how they created that color. I moved back to a Milwaukee circular saw with that nice red-orange look. I hope someday Makita can bring me back some day because it's the better saw and brand of the two. Infuriates me to no end!

Jazzundso wrote: "I think it's great when colors are your biggest problem with Studio One".
lol. I have to remember that one.

To the OP. The color changes because the track is highlighted. Pro Tools and most other DAW's. highlight in the same manner. That said, I would be in favor of more color swatches though because Studio One isn't even the equivalent of a Commadore 64 in color swatches. That's pretty painful.

On the bright side, the overall look of Studio One is very appealing to me. Why? Because I can sit LONG hours working and not feel the least bit of fatigue. Its very similar in motif to Photoshop or any graphics oriented program that has excelled and studied feedback of users who also commit to long hours of use. Kudos to the design look of Studio One (v3 thru v5) on a whole.

FWIW, I also remove the mixer panel color. For me, it's just more business like. The colors still show as needed on tracks and channels and I love the non gimmicky approach to not having Icons for guitar, drums, etc. It shows Studio One development has some integrity.

I'm more concerned with the nuts and bolts, or lack thereof that Studio One needs than color. So let's not get my Irish up! :XD:

My main gripe is that when you have an instrument track coloured and then bounce it, it changes the bounced track to the next colour on the palette. On the basis that I could be regarded as senile I am convinced that bouncing a track should not change its colour. I could moan about other things but its too hot and I am melting.

Those who can't dance always blame the band.
