I'm using SWAM saxophone V3. As far as I can tell it is not polyphonic so I have to add as many tracks as needed to play simultaneous notes. So, I created one track and added automation at a constant value of 50 for modulation. Then, I hit "Duplicate Complete" six times for a total of seven tracks.

Upon listening to the result I think I should have set the modulation for all of them to a level of 40. Is there a way to change the automation value for all seven tracks in one action? Perhaps a macro or something like that? I have never used macros so don't really know where to start. Thanks for any input.

Macro not necessary.

The way I know is to take the several tracks you have. In this case six. Highlight them and create one VCA track. That VCA will have an automation lane on your arrangement view (or create one).

Now, when you edit the automation curves in that VCA lane, those 6 saxophone tracks will automatically follow and show the same automation curves. One swoop.

If you need a video on it, I can probably find one for you.

Found it:

Another way to do it would be to create a Multi instrument and then bind the parameter of each instrument to a Macro knob and then automate that knob.

Thanks for the great replies. That is exactly what I was looking for!!

That too! There was a recent question on a similar subject pertaining to each track having a different MIDI channel but controlling all with one knob, so the suggestion of mapping, and one controller knob on a control surface encoder handling all tracks was made.

Effectively, both here can be done where the automation could be handled via VCA, and a knob mapped to it. That way, changes can be in real time via a mapped hardware encoder, or drawn (either mapped, or VCA).

There's often multiple ways of doing things, and Studio One isn't short of that.
Cheers.

OK, so finally getting around to trying this but I can't get it to work. Here is what I did...

1) Create new track, add instrument, add MIDI notes, add automation for modulation
2) "Duplicate complete" the above track and change the MIDI notes a bit

So now I have two tracks that are identical except for the change in MIDI notes.

3) Select the two tracks, right click, then "Add VCA for selected channels"

So, now the new VCA controller controls both tracks, but my problem is that it controls the volume. I need it to control the automation track. I tried a million things but can't figure it out.

Can anyone help?

I think VCA is only used to automate volume, but I haven't used it so perhaps I'm wrong :P

If you want to use Multi instrument instead there is one big drawback, all the instruments will get the same midi-input. However, you can split the notes so certain notes goes to instrument 1 and others to instrument 2 etc.

Yes, VCA being voltage controlled amplifier. I missed the point about modulation and thought only about level automation so in such a case of modulating something, a macro knob would be used while mapping it to the desired tracks.
