I'm trying to figure out if this is possible in S1. Say I have an event where its start isn't snapped to the grid. If I want to option+click and drag to duplicate the event, there's no way I'll be able to copy it to a place in time with the song. In Cubase you can select the events in a range, and snap the beginning of the range to a bar and move the events relative to the range selection. Then you can move the range and snap the range to a bar which keeps the events in time. I'm not sure if I'm explaining this well so I've included a video showing what I'm trying to do in studio one

Cubase
Range is used to snap to a bar, keeping the event in time with the song

Studio One
The range disappears when moving the event and the beginning of the event snaps to the grid, which originally was not on the grid so it'll play out of time.

You described this well.
I'd love to have this implemented in Studio One. Feature Request it. I'll definately vote er' up. :+1

I know somewhere in the past in the forum, there was a similar request for anchoring events which would hold or duplicate them the same way. Such features go way back to Cubase 5 or VST. Decades ago.

My work around has been to reset events at the beginning to match a grid point. Things should be a little more sophisticated with event timing so let's see. ;)

The best way to go about this is to select the range on top of the event, like you were doing, and then copy/paste instead of dragging. It will then keep your event at the same "off-time" relative position.

But yes, totally agree it needs to be how it is in Cubase

Voted
Way to go, NoiseCoalition

Btw, the count was zero when I went to the link. Voted to make it +1.

You created the FR but didn't vote. I know it should probably do that automatically. So just a reminder to vote for your FR. ;)

I suspect for thpse who use Studio One for writing songs would benefit or appreciate having this feature or a similar way of easily duplicating events (size and position depending) so they land in place.
This is particularly useful for percussive or rhythm events where timing is accented just before the first downbeat

Good you FR'd. Thanks!

I tried to vote but it wont let me. Maybe it doesn't let the person who created the FR to vote? Go figure ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Huh. Yeah, still at 1. You may have to sign in (or re sign in?). But it still should take your vote. It has in the past.
Fortunately good common sense is at least acknowledged in the FR forum and not just the popular vote. So keep the faith, and you did the right thing by requesting.

Until then, make good music! 👍
Peace my friend.

To those wishing to help the cause, please vote if duplicating events of various sizes doesn't readily repeat correctly. It happens quite a lot. Not all events start and end exactly on snap to grid but with the right tools, could very easily repeat as intended.

Move events in range relative to range selection
