So, I've been playing around with the SHOW page, as a potential preferable alternative for church worship tracks compared to Loop Community Prime, Multitracks Playback, and Ableton Live.

1st Impressions are really good! So many things to love!
However, I have 2 questions currently limiting usage:

1. Is there a way to transpose a whole song on the fly? i.e. the lead vocalist wants song 3 down 1/2 step. So, we'd need to be able to transpose all the tracks and loaded instruments -- ideally in a single move. (Or must we go back to the original source files in Song View, reopen a Song session, and manually transpose everything there?) Prime and Playback currently have this capability.

2. How are experienced users advancing from one song to another without hassle from any of the Perform page options?
Currently, the arrangement view of the Show page has the Setlist always visible on the left. It seems the basic way to advance songs is to double-click on the song area (careful not to click on text, or text options comes up!). And then press play via the space bar. It's a bit kludgy, but it "works".

However, the SHOW feature is intended to be run in PERFORM mode, from one of those 3 pages, either from your computer (MBP in my case) or from the RC on a tablet (iPad pro in my case).
However, this is where I'm wondering who is testing the product and actually using it:
- In each of the 3 PERFORM page views, the SETLIST disappears. It's not officially part of the page.
- There is a deceptive dropdown menu where the SETLIST can appear. Ok. But you cannot PLAY from it. So, it's useless for advancing songs.
- One of the 3 PERFORM views allows you to click on any song section and immediately advance there. Very nice. But inexplicably omitted is the Setlist or an option to advance to the next song (or any other song). It seems to be designed only for within a song, not for a concert set.
- The RC is further limited. On my iPad pro in the current version (still 1.6, un-updated for many months) no live control seems possible. Neither touching a new song section, changing the mode from continuous to something else, or Playback via Setlist is doable. I simply get no response.
Maybe bugs; maybe underdeveloped.

Wondering if SHOW page is catching on and being further developed. It's such a potentially better alternative than LIVE. But not yet...

Bump...

This is sad... Studio One users: Start using the Show page! It's on its way to becoming awesome.
Let's see if we can get some further traction among the developers.

I want to bump this again..

Would like a better live set up and looking at Show page.

I'm currently looking at using it only for backing tracks and metronome and taking all the live instruments directly into the PA. So those aren't going through S1 Show in order to have zero latency and also so the show can go on should something go awry with S1/computer/interface. Tips, hints, experiences with doing it this way are welcome.

Unfortunately, Ableton Live is kind of the defacto industry standard for this. The SHOW page has a LONNNNNG way to go before coming close to using Live, I am not a fan of Live, but we use it in my church. I've tried using the Show page and just...isn't full featured enough. Not even close. I want to be able to change tempos for effects. I want to be able to transpose. I want to be able to make better jump points. All stuff easily done in Live.

However, in all fairness, the SHOW page wasn't designed to be an "Ableton Live" competitor. It does great for what it was designed to do. I use it for live streaming, as well as use it to quickly change patches on my keyboard when I do play out. You don't have to use the mouse to change sounds...you literally just use the arrow keys on the keyboard. Also, I may be wrong, as I don't use it with tracks, just for changing patches, I believe that it will auto advance to the next song if it is "playing."

Agreed it's got a long way to go. Which is why I wanted to bump this. We do all our recording in S1, being able to push songs straight over to Show is a benefit.

The more we can talk about it and provide suggestions, the more it's likely to improve.

Thanks, gabo

One of the features I'm needing (see Feature Requests -- SHOW) is to be able to export per song from the Show Page.

For a working scenario, you perfect your songset in the Show Page. And then you want to use songs later that you've already set up optimally. So, we'd export them individually. (Mainstage does this, for example, though tracks are not used.) However, the current version of SHOW doesn't allow individual song export.

Please help vote this one in. Someone else requested it long ago, but we need more people to Up-Vote it to raise the profile.

2. How are experienced users advancing from one song to another without hassle from any of the Perform page options?

Two things to say:

1. You can use the "Previous Setlist Item" and "Next Setlist Item" commands to manually switch between songs (during playback or when playback is paused). You can run these commands by assigning them to key commands or (what of course makes more sense on stage) assigning them to buttons on your MIDI controller or pads on Studio One Remote.

I sometimes use the Show Page with both my iPad (Show Page view, Sections page) and my Android smartphone (macro command view for running commands such as Next Section / Previous Section / Stop at End of Bar etc.).

2. You usually don't need to switch to the next song because...
gregghart wroteAlso, I may be wrong, as I don't use it with tracks, just for changing patches, I believe that it will auto advance to the next song if it is "playing."

Exactly! It will auto-advance to the next song - but you can customize for every song (Setlist Item) if playback should continue or stop after the song. Available playback modes are "Continue", "Stop at End" and "Loop". If it's set to "Stop at End", playback stops but it still auto-selects the next song so you basically only need to press PLAY to start the next song. The same playback modes are available for sections (there are even two more: "Loop and Continue" and "Skip").

Image

By the way, playback modes can be really useful even if you don't use backing tracks. If you know that you need a specific set of sounds (Patches) in one song, you can prepare sections and assign the Patches you want to play to the different sections. Then set the sections to "Stop at End". That way you can put your Patches in a certain order and then press PLAY to switch the next (or previous..) Patch. Or you use Next/Previous Section to navigate between patches in your current song.

I'm interested in this point. What exactly do you mean by better jump points? I guess you know about the possibility to define arranger sections and switch between them?
