Hi

In Brief: What are your experiences in setting up Foot-operated Midi-controllers in Studio One?

As I only have two hands and both are needed on the keyboard, I have been looking into getting a midi foot controller.
The front runner is the Behringer FCB1010. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Behringer-FCB1010-MIDI-Foot-Controller/dp/B000CZ0RK6/ref=sr_1_6?crid=2RZS92KP1IXIK&keywords=midi+foot+controller&qid=1638377621&sprefix=midi+foot+%2Caps%2C169&sr=8-6
Apparently, documentation is awful for this, and it really does look like something made in the last Century (I mean, apparently - to update it you need to solder in a new chip!)
On the other hand, the unit *does* show up as a supported device in S1.

Researching into this, all I hear is how difficult it is to set up period, but specifically in S1 (where there are a raft of problems, including only one of the two pedals and only one of the banks being recognized).

Now, I have only been into the whole music thing for under a year, and most of that time has been spent learning the keyboard and the DAW (and the million-plus VST's I have somehow accrued). Midi is a total mystery to me.

Has anyone here used this pedal successfully in S1 - or have any other suggestions?

I should point out that I am thinking of this for controlling expression on the keyboard (Keylab and Korg Opsix) and in VST's (i.e. modwheel on keyboard, and various parameters in software instruments.)
[i.e. *not* guitar]

Should I take the plunge, or run in the opposite direction?
I would really appreciate your opinions on this.

Hi chrisgould,
I use the UnO2-chip in my FCB1010 board.
My euphoria I wrote here: https://www.native-instruments.com/forum/threads/fcb1010-uno2-chip-overview-samplescript.434975/

The UnO2 must be fooded by a like text editor program, that translates editor-commands and sends to the board, so NO GUI, but easy to understand!. Editor Demo can be seen here: https://www.fcb1010.eu/uno2_demo.html
A backup of the edited commands can be copyed from editor and saved in a .txt-file.

The initial version, the "UnO", has a GUI Software for program the board.
Look here: https://www.fcb1010.uno/

The chip in FCB1010 is NOT soldered but little glued, - can be changed by self or if needed by any radio or television shop.

The board can be integrated quite easily as "New Keyboard".
As soon as the DAW receives a midi signal from FCB1010 you can route the midi everywhere.
If the wheels on keyboards are receptive for midi data, the FCB1010 can serve the data.

Yes, you can send every PC, CC, Note on, Note off or Notes on a special/seperat midi channel.
On switch on or changing a bank, you can initialize a different connection/use for the 2 pedals and every single button.
According to what your stuff understands or have to receive, you have to program the FCB1010...
You can play bass notes on the buttons if you want, sended to an bass instrument of course.

Last but not least, there is a "EurekaPROM", but I don't know anything about it....
But a FCB1010 can be bought with chip already installed.

PS: You are right if you wonder about the bad reputation to the FCB because of bad to edit the board.
I wonder myself that Behringer is not able make it easy, within 20 years.
My strike was the UnO2-chip with editor, now i have full control and overview of how the FCB is set, no crypto tap dance no more. And no forgotten steps to edit the board no more. :)

PPS: And I don't know if you knew it yet, as a keyboard player midi is one of your secondary skills, soon. :+1

Tino

I had a good experience with a Nektar keyboard, their software set it up in S! for me and worked fine.

Maybe their pedalboard does the same...

Before you go any further, check to see if any of your midi keyboards can take an Expression input. You may only need to add a relatively cheap expression pedal.
