SNAP to GRID in my S1 5 Pro keeps randomly ceasing to work as it should. I've seen several posts here and other forums where people are having this issue, and haven't found a solution.
I'm just doing basic stuff, like editing a few HiHat & Drum hits in the Editor, and also moving things around in the Arranger. I'll have Snap set to eg; 1/4 or 1/16 (whatever) and it works as expected, it Snaps to The Grid of that subdivision, whether in Edit or Arranger. I don't use or require any type of Adaptive snapping...when I want it to Snap I want it to snap to the defined beat or subdivision of that beat. Locked. Not fluid or adaptive. I am aware of the blue button at the top of Arranger and Editor, and have it On. It doesn't matter how I set the other choices beside the blue button, it still plays up randomly. I've tried closing down S1 completely then reopening but it still behaves the same. Is this really a bug of some type in the program, seeing that many users are having the same issue? It has a mind of its own, and I can't figure out how to fix it. I'm not at all new to DAW recording / editing, but am new to S1. Maybe it's a setting I have wrong, seeing as the Snap function appears to be quite flexible and involved in this DAW. All I want is good old basic snap to grid. All help gratefully appreciated. |
Do you have plugin interfaces open at times?
I find that's when I have problems, some plugins catch keystrokes and they don't make it trough the track. Very important to know what is currently "IN" focus whenever you use shortcuts. You are using shortcuts in your editing?

You have my sympathy. The way snap works (or doesn’t) in Studio One does my head in! I’ve been using DAWs for 20 years, and for the past 4 years been exclusively using SO. I absolutely love it for so many things - snap is the glaring exception. I’ve asked the very helpful folk here on the forum a number of times, and studied videos. It must be me but I still don’t get it.

Snap to grid not working again, i Have:
Blue "snap button" on, Snap menu set to Bar and Snap to Grid Timebase menu set to Bars, and 1/4 beat checked Quantize set to 1/4 When i drag an event to new location it doesnt snap at all, its as if snap is "off". Other users have so many similar experiences, Im guessing Studio one staff dont know how to fix this bug. Since by design, the shift key disables snap features, im guessing the code thinks the shift key is engaged, which it isnt. perhaps a "shift key" boolean property is stuck on in the code. |
I suspect this only occurs in one special song. Can you reproduce this reliably with this song? Can you provide this song?

I'm guessing Studio One staff really appreciates your tip that they just need to fix the boolean property.

I can only contribute that this happened to me recently and I thought I was going nuts ... such a simple, straightforward function wasn't working and I was trying to figure out what the heck I was doing wrong.
It fixed itself somehow, but next time I'll take more notice and if I see what I do to reverse this, I'll let you know. |
Just a hunch but IF snap doesn't work in any situation, one possibility could be:
Just the way failure to snap a note into position might occur by selecting several notes at one time (possibly dragging over or multiple shift clicking), this interferes with Snap due to the possibility that a note isn't set to the grid but is a few ticks or beats away. With multiple notes, this interferes with the expected snap process. Especially when the lead note is off and the attempt is to fix it o to the grid. It could even be potentially a sliver of a note below a note. Try deleting the note to see what is underneath. So the same holds true for events. If an event is selected by dragging over and a partial or even sliver of an event is below, and off of the grid starting point it may alter the expected snap process. Just try the same check by seeing if some event remnant is underneath. I see event remnants quite a bit underneath or alone when editing or comping. If you don't want to search by deleting to find a fragment of an event/ or note underneath, simply drag over the event and select merge. That may possibly be the trouble and fix the issue. It's worth the check. Outside of that, I've never seen any issue with snap to grid.
