After a year of health issues (not covid) I am finally setting up my Studio One 5.4 Professional / Studio Live 32SX series III studio. I have connected the Studio Live 32SX to my computer via USB and the unit was recognized by Windows 10 X64. Then I was able to go online and update the firmware of the mixer to 2.5 something or other. I can see the mixer in Universal Control and control it as well. When I launch Studio One 5.4 Professional and attempt to set the audio device to the studio live series III mixer, it attempts to connect and then it pops up an error window saying the device cannot be initialized. Any ideas why Studio One cannot initialize the mixer?
Do I need to have an ethernet cable from the "Control" jack on the mixer connected to a router where my computer is connected?

Thanks but that didn't work. It's funny, before I launch Studio One, The mixer connects to Universal Control and I can control faders and all other functions of the mixer from the computer. As soon as I launch Studio One I lose the USB connection to the mixer. Studio One is doing something to interrupt the USB connection to the mixer.

As soon as I launch Studio One I lose the USB connection to the mixer. Studio One is doing something to interrupt the USB connection to the mixer. Studio One uses the USB connection for audio, and looks for a network connection for daw mode control. With the pc and mixer each plugged into a powered up router, turn the mixer on first. Then start Studio One. At the S1 start page, if you do not see your mixer pictured as the audio device, click audio devices and select the mixer. It may show an error about initialization, click retry if it does. If your USB connection is synced, you should be good. Now on the mixer, select UCnet, and select Studio one for control. Now pressing daw mode should switch to control of S1 |
Thank you both for your advice.
Yes the UC Control screen you show is what I am seeing. It does show the mixer. I can click on the picture of the mixer in UC and access the mixer as I said. I have not tried capture. Matthew, I will try your steps as well

I followed the start up sequence and no change. Also, my UC/NET choices on the mixer are SD Card or Software. There is no choice for Studio One. I tried the software choice but there is no change.
Also, I downloaded and launched Capture 3.0 I get the same fail to initialize error for the mixer in capture that I get in Studio one 5.4. Clicking retry over and over does nothing. As before, I can access the mixer in Universal Control (UC) just fine. I even installed my Fat Channel plugins with no problem. Clearly the mixer is communicating via USB to the computer and works just fine in UC just not in either DAW program (Studio One or Capture)

If I understand it right, USB is working for you as "control" (UC Control/UC Surface), but not for audio (Capture/Studio One). There definitely are problems with USB and failing connectors and/or people fight with incompatibilties, so asking PreSonus Support for "assistance" might be a good idea.
https://my.presonus.com > Support > Create A Ticket (orange "+" button) The choices of UCNET are SD Card or Software, because that only refers to Transport Control (Start, Stop etc.). DAW Mode uses WLAN and an IP address. |
Thanks. I'll do that if I can't figure it out myself. I found an article where the user uninstalled the mixer drivers in windows so I'll try that first.

If the Windows driver is your "exact same problem", then this Knowledge Base article might be helpful:
https://support.presonus.com/hc/en-us/a ... dows-10-11 Using Capture is the best option to check if USB works or not. If Capture works, any other DAW will also work. If you want to use DAW Mode, make sure that mixer and computer are connected to the same control network. |
