Hi All
It might be a bit early, but I guess this is a thread that will get opened sometime anyway. Does anyone know how well S1 will run on Windows 11 when it comes out? Will it need another release or two of S1 to recover from problems that upgrading to a new OS will more than likely cause? I imagine most drivers may need updating as well. Thoughts, opinions and/or actual knowledge (guesswork too )?

leosutherland wroteThoughts, opinions and/or actual knowledge (guesswork too )? I received my Win 11 ISO images early this morning and will begin testing soon. The big takeaway (and frustration) for many in here will be the actual PC requirements - which indicate that if you are running a purchased PC (or specific components like CPU/TPM chip etc) older than say mid 2018 - you will not be able to use Win 11 anyways. It will not install. There are ways around that - but for some S1 users - that might be a bit too much tech to navigate. For all those rocking that 5 year old Win 7/Win 10 rig - there will be choices and probably some grumbling to be had. But anyone running tech that old probably will not care about Win 11 anyway. Me - I am all about maturity and stability and I see no reason to actually move to Win 11 for at least a year or more. It may take that long before the new OS is truly stable and usable. I also received an update yesterday that Win 10 will have a couple more releases before it is finally retired in 2025. Win 10 has been nothing but perfect for my work and I see no reason to change that out at this point. Cheers VP

I'm of the same mind, actually, when it comes to considering my DAW machine - the old adage, if it ain't broke don't fix it - my system is about 3 years old now, but it is completely stable, and I've never had any Windows 10 related problems with running S1 (here we are talking 4.6.2) on it, atm I see no gain in updating it. However, might be worthwhile upgrading my other GP machines, though praps not immediately. But as a matter of interest if nothing else, I shall be checking both machines to see how suitable they are for Windows 11. Might even report back Just in case

FWIW installing a new version of Windows over an existing installation as opposed to a fresh install, which used to be considered a less desirable proposition, seems to have become less so in recent history. What I'm getting at it is all the reports I've read so far indicate whatever Win 10 drivers people have are being seen and used easily enough by Win 11. Which is not to say I recommend being the first guy on your block to upgrade, just that installing over a previous installation seems way less risky than it used to be.
I held off moving from Win 7 to Win 10 forever, then no sooner did I finally make the move than Microsoft announced Win 11! I'll be stuck for a while, though, cause the older placeholder graphics card I bought till prices come down isn't going to make the DirectX 12 cut. |
Every single new Windows OS release, some people have no problems, others have problems problems problems. The problems may not be straight away, but after three or four monthly updates - bingo. I chuckle when I read the long threads of tales of woe, because I haven't upgraded and I'm perfectly fine.
If you value stability I would strongly recommend avoiding updating till at least six months after the full release, and ideally a year. By that time bugs are fixed, third party drivers and software will be updated and will have stabilized, and things will have settled.

I should be ready for a new computer and win11 by the time the wheels fall off this Ryzen.

I just downloaded windows11 on my brand new computer that I had built to basically guarantee that I wouldn't have any issues. Last night I was doing some recording and wanted to add some reverb from my abbey road collection from waves and the recording software locked up then shut down. I have rebooted the computer multiple times to correct but it keeps shutting down. Anyone else having these issues. If so anyone know how to fix it. Thanks

Thanks Steve Sorry to hear about the issues - but Studio One is not certified for Windows 11 yet - not sure if Presonus Support would look at your case at this early stage. That said - there should be a dialog that pops up (after a crash) to load Studio One clean - as in no plugins - as that is what is most likely giving you grief. If that does not work - I have no other solutions since I do not have Win 11 in play. Cheers VP
