Is it at all possible to set up the Studio 1824c and use it as a platform to a band to rehearse to through headphones? Can the 2 headphone outs deliver 2 different mixes? Is it possible to use the line outputs to deliver additional mixes? Could this work with a 5 piece band (vocals/keys/guitar/bass/e-drums)?
Presumably some kind of headphone amplifier would be needed for each musician, but is there a better alternative? |
Welcome to the Forum!
They quit making these but they looked pretty neat. https://www.ebay.com/itm/184856057696?h ... Sw1qFgrh2c Roland has something similar: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail ... sion-mixer? More modern alternative: http://www.jamstudio.com/Studio/index.htm But that interface will do what you want, it has the I/O. Some headphone amps would be good to have, I think the signal from the front panel headphone jacks are the same. But you have plenty outputs to feed everyone. It will be a process, a learning process as well. Good to put your specs in your signature, click below in my signature.

If its the same as the 1810C then the second headphones out is by default driven by Out 3/4. You're better off creating a Studio One Song with Cue Mix software outs rather than trying to wrangle the 1824 standalone UC GUI to route things well. And each output isn't high-level enough to drive headphones properly (although you will hear something). An alternative is for each band member to buy their own small mixer ... the really small two-channel designs can be very cheap ... and use that to drive headphones properly after feeding them the line signal from the 1824C. Anything that has a headphone output, like an old stereo hifi or a DJ desk, can be used to bring the 1824C signal up to that level.

I've not really needed to explore cue mixes but I think I get it now; I can route cue mixes to any line outs and (in addition to the 2 headphone outs) I'd just need a headphone amp (or similar) to boost up to headphone output level for each additional out. Trying to do this for the minimum outlay so it may be a case of adding a rack headphone amp to the system or individual ones like the HP2.
Alternatively I could use the AUX outs on our live desk with a headphone amp I guess. |
