Basically what it says in the title. I've been trying for a whole afternoon to produce a tool that makes it easier to create surfaces for devices where the current MIDI is plainly put, shoddy (when you have 128 knobs with feedback to map, it can become quite irritating to turn them one by one rightclick select transmit without accidentally clicking "remove" etc etc). But because there is little to no easily accessible documentation on this interface, I can't actually get it fully working.

Basically my surface is set up to send either 3F when turning a knob down, or 41 when turning a knob up (knob in a loose sense, these are encoders), but the device expects an absolute value back when transmitting back to the device.

This has been no problem for Bitwig and Reason, and they have well documented surface APIs (bitwig's more than reason's, but reason's docs actually exist).
