is there a way to have midi data one midi - instrument track go out to multiple VSTi / instruments ?
in ableton live its called "midi stack" i believe, and in cubase its possible to do with midi sends.

I no there is a way just to record directly to multiple tracks but then its more complex to edit.
I want to have record to one track while hearing multiple stacked VSTi and have midi data recorded on one track.

one midi input, one instrument track event but multiple VST instruments

Just drag your second VST onto the same track and choose "combine". Repeat for all the instruments.

If you want to go deeper you can configure the "multi instrument" further by including Note Fx, keyboard splits etc: You can basically make your own supersynth:
