Guys,
I would not name this GUI change, we are talking about GUI improvement. Regarding earning money and working the discussion is kind of nonsense. In any business software you will have GUI changes and improvements. This is a normal process today because Software changes and growth from version to version. You will see this changes in each CMS, CAD or business data frontend. Cheers Tom |
Yeah, that wasn't how this thread started, which posed the question if "a complete GUI overhaul" would be appreciated. And I can see how a complete overhaul can mess up the workflow of some. Or improve, who knows? But it would be a far steeper learning curve than with the usual smaller improvements one expects.

No it wouldn't - we are just talking about things that improve the look, and more personal choices in customisation. If others want to stick with a grey boring look and less clear function buttons then it should be their choice. There is no real learning "curve" here at all.

SwitchBack wroteThis then comes down to people's definition or perception of "a complete GUI overhaul". To me that's far more than a lick of paint. Not to you or so it seems. Some want to change the GUI to be like some other DAW's. Me, I just want some more cosmetic choices to help the workflow as S1 works as it is. But yes, some difference in what people would term the GUI or what aspects of it.

The midi editing field could benefit from brighter options. The colour palette overall should not limit you to the 36 colours Presonus provides, or whatever it is. Custom colour should be there. But I don't really mind. I'm not buying it again.

tomguenther wroteGuys, Agreed. I think we're all on the same page with regards to improvement only here. I pointed out in my initial response that a GUI change wouldn't happen with such a program unless it were quite antiquated. Studio One is far from an antiquated DAW, and actually is one of the more leading edge UI's for such a program. Albeit it can still use some fine tuning. Anyway there is some good points being made amongst users here. Why? Because users utilize the program in ways to accomplish their song, project, live sets, and so forth. Contrary to a lot of promo or review videos which typically scratch only the surface of the program. Spending long hours with such an environment prompt smart points towards improvement. Just off the cuff, I'd be curious just how much the OP utilizes Studio One to suggest a GUI change? So let the suggestions continue. I think we'd all like to see the very good suggestions already mentioned find their way to version 6. Peace, all!

Pretty clear the climate here is that the Studio One GUI is largely just fine from its users. There could be a few front end enhancements.
The most prominent areas in this thread look to be minimize any clutter, with added tabs or side panels. Another repeated request for improvement looks to be updating or preferably overhauling the color pallette. Even a 256 color pallette when choosing swatches would be welcome. Skins, and a somewhat easily configurable color layout would be more than welcome. Probably more requests to come as we near version 6.0. Best to request this stuff sooner than later.

Lokeyfly wrotePretty clear the climate here is that the Studio One GUI is largely just fine from its users. There could be a few front end enhancements. I agree on that, I would also add that one serious priority should be the slight GUI changes that even if minor, would actually HELP the users, such as: - When you select an event, it is highlighted in that lightblue which is often hard to see. - Automation lanes should also be thicker, they are often hard to see as well. Automation points should have a better resolution to be more precise when selecting them. - This is personal, but I'd like to see thicker midi notes in the events (when they are not opened in the editor). The data zoom should maybe expand those as well, not just the waveforms. - With some color combinations, the Mute/Solo/Automation On-off buttons are hard to see, if you have colored tracks, especially if the track shares the same color of those buttons.
