Hey guys,

I am relatively new to music production and I've actually got inspired by videos where the people create a beat while adding more and more sounds to a loop and create live a beat with different claps, snares, piano tones, etc..

I've found this Tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAaxuEl_X8Y&t and I want to do the same (just without the Pedal) but couldn't find a tutorial.

I have a M-Audio Oxygen 61 and PreSonus Pro. Can someone recommend to me a video tutorial on how to setup the midi keyboard? Is there even a way to create this? I'm imagining preparing some different layers such as a Drum Kit layer, mapping them with the buttons and then create individual layers with different instruments which I can use, but how can I switch between them while just using the Midi Keyboard?

Hope there is something out there that explains it.

Thanks in advance

You need to tell us what platform you are on because there are slight differences.

You can connect the MAudio Axiom 61 via Midi or USB directly to the computer. I think you need a driver for the USB connection for Windows. Mac might be class compliant. 2nd Gen Axiom 61's are fully class compliant for Windows.

Drivers still available.

I have one of these too and I connect mine via MIDI OUT but that needs to go to some form of Midi interface though. Either a separate midi interface or the midi connections on the rear of many audio interfaces.

USB is fine if you have the port available. Once the driver is in then (or its up and running automatically) you create a Keyboard device (icon is a little keyboard) in External devices. You name this and set its RECEIVE FROM setting to the MAudio Axiom. SEND TO is set to NONE.

Now Instrument tracks will offer the MAudio Axiom as an input source to either virtual instruments or external midi instruments.

If you connect the MIDI OUT from the Axiom to say the MIDI IN of an interface or an audio interface midi connection then External Devices is still setup the same way. Except the RECEIVE FROM window will list either your midi interface and port number or the audio interface's midi connection in that menu. Just select that instead.

You can set what notes the pads send out on as well on the MAudio itself. Read the manual fully for that.
